SERIES OF OPERATIONS
LET'S LEARN!
Example 1:
Suppose a boat ride at the Niagara Falls costs 13 Canadian dollars
for an adult and 8 Canadian dollars for achild. If 764 dults and 565
children rode the boat in one day, how much was the total earnings
that day?

The number sentence that we can use to solve fpr the problem is:
764 x 13 + 565 x 8 = N
LET'S LEARN!
Here are some rules when performing a series of operations involving
addition, subtraction and multiplication:

RULE 1the operations inside the parenthesis before the operations

Perform
outside the parenthesis.

RULE 2
Perform multiplication before subtraction or addition.

RULE 3
If a problem involves both addition and subtraction, perform those
two operations as they appear from left to right.

Suppose a boat ride at the Niagara Falls costs 13 Canadian dollars
for an adult and 8 Canadian dollars for achild. If 764 dults and 565
children rode the boat in one day, how much was the total earnings
that day?
764 x 13 + 565 x 8 = N
Solution:
9,932 + 4,520 = N

14,452 =N
