SCIENCE 7
FIRST QUARTER - MATTER
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the sessions, the students
can:

• Describe the characteristics of an element and

compound;
• Distinguish elements from a compound based on a
set of properties;
• Classify substances as elements or compound;
• Make an infographic material on the common
elements/compounds they can find in the
environment showing their names, symbols and uses.

Classifications of Matter
PURE
SUBSTANCES
single kind of matter that cannot be
separated into other kinds of matter
by any physical means
ELEMENTS

• made up of atoms or atoms of

the same kind
• cannot be broken down into
simpler components
COMPOUND

• combination of two or more

elements
• can be broken down into its
components through a chemical
process
• formed when two elements are
combined
TASKS
• Separate the beads into different types.
• Each bead represents an atom.
• Each kind of bead represents an element.
• Try to create a compound out of the beads
assigned to you.
