What is Code of
Ethics for Teachers?
The code of ethics for teachers
is designed to protect the rights of the
teachers. It is important that teachers
understand that when they get a
teaching position they are agreeing to
follow the code of ethics.

Professional Ethical Principles:
1. Not using authority to influence personal life or for
monetary gain.
2. Not using authority with malicious intent.
3. Acting within the scope of position’s authority only.
4. Not influencing or advocating unethical conduct in

Need of Professional Ethics:
1. To aware the teachers to do their duties and abiding
by truth, hard work and honesty when they tend
towards comforts, selfishness, laziness and money.
2. To change the conduct and behavior of teachers in
such a way behind which there must be social
acceptance and approval.
3. To act as a role model for students by behaving in
ethical manner to one and all.
Need of Professional Ethics:
4. To create, sustain and maintain a reciprocal relationship
between school and society for ensuring harmonious
development of the students as well as of society.
5. To enable every teacher for becoming a real one in truest
sense of the term by molding his personality.
6. To bring improvement in professional environment to make
it more conducive, favorable and appropriate for effective
working. For this the teacher have to follow the ethical codes
of teaching profession.
Professional Integrity:
Teachers should:
1. Act with honesty and integrity in all aspects of their work
2. Respect the privacy of others and the confidentiality of
information gained in the course of professional practice,
unless a legal imperative requires disclosure or there is a
legitimate concern for the well being of an individual
3. Represent themselves, their professional status,
qualifications and experience honestly
4. Avoid conflict between their professional work and private
interests which could reasonably be deemed to impact
negatively on pupils/students.

Section 8. A teacher shall not inflict corporal punishment on offending learners nor make deductions
from their scholastic ratings as a punishment for acts which are clearly not manifestation of poor
scholarship.
The most common ethics violations
involved non-school-related criminal
activity, sexual misconduct with students,
failure to disclose previous crimes or
license sanctions, physical aggression
toward students, and endangering student
health or safety.
Every teacher shall merit reasonable
social recognition for which purpose he
shall behave with honor and dignity at all
times and refrain from such activities
as gambling, smoking, drunkenness, and
other excesses, much less illicit relations.
