눅 15:3 예수께서 그들에게 이 비유로 이르시되
So He spoke this parable to them, saying:
눅 15:1 모든 세리와 죄인들이 말씀을 들으러 가까이 나아오니
Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.
 눅 15:2 바리새인과 서기관들이 수군거려 이르되 이 사람이 죄인을
영접하고 음식을 같이 먹는다 하더라
And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sin-
ners and eats with them.”
 “ 여기에 나오는 맏아들은 세리와 죄인으로 간주되던 사람들을
업신여기던 그리스도 당시의 회개하지 않는 유대인과 각 시대의
바리새인과 같은 사람들을 대표한다 .”( 실물 209)
“By the elder son were represented the unrepenting Jews of Christ’s day, and
also the Pharisees in every age, who look with contempt upon those
whom they regard as publicans and sinners.”(COL 209)
 눅 15:8 어떤 여자가 열 드라크마가 있는데 하나를 잃으면 등불을 켜고
집을 쓸며 찾아내기까지 부지런히 찾지 아니하겠느냐
“Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not
light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it?
눅 15:5 또 찾아낸즉 즐거워 어깨에 메고
And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
눅 15:6 집에 와서 그 벗과 이웃을 불러 모으고 말하되 나와 함께 즐기자 나의 잃은
양을 찾아내었노라 하리라
And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them,
‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’
눅 15:9 또 찾아낸즉 벗과 이웃을 불러 모으고 말하되 나와 함께 즐기자 잃은
드라크마를 찾아내었노라 하리라
And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Re-
joice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’
눅 15:10 내가 너희에게 이르노니 이와 같이 죄인 한 사람이 회개하면
하나님의 사자들 앞에 기쁨이 되느니라
Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God
over one sinner who repents.”
 “ 한 영혼의 가치를 누가 능히 평가할 수 있겠는가 ? 만일 그대가 그 가치를
알고자 하면 겟세마네 동산으로 가서 , 거기서 그리스도께서 핏방울과 같은
땀을 흘리시면서 몹시 고민하시는 그분을 주목하여 보라 . 십자가에 달리신
구주를 바라보라 .
“The value of a soul, who can estimate? Would you know its worth, go to Gethse-
mane, and there watch with Christ through those hours of anguish, when He
sweat as it were great drops of blood. Look upon the Saviour uplifted on the
cross.
“ 나의 하나님 , 나의 하나님 , 어찌하여 나를 버리셨나이까” ( 막 15:34)
하는 낙담의 부르짖음을 들어 보라 . 상처를 입은 머리와 찔린 옆구리와
상한 발을 바라보라 . 그리스도께서 온갖 위험을 무릅쓰신 것을
기억하라 . 우리의 구속을 위하여 하늘 자체가 위험을 무릅썼던 것이다 .
Hear that despairing cry, “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” Mark
15:34. Look upon the wounded head, the pierced side, the marred feet. Remem-
ber that Christ risked all. For our redemption, heaven itself was imperiled.
 한 명의 죄인을 위해서라도 그리스도께서 당신의 목숨을 버리셨을
것이라는 사실을 기억 하면서 십자가에 가까이 나아간다면 거기서
그대는 한 영혼의 가치를 평가할 수 있을 것이다 .”( 실물 196)
At the foot of the cross, remembering that for one sinner Christ would have
laid down His life, you may estimate the value of a soul.”(COL 196)
“ 비록 잃어버린 영혼이 단 한 사람뿐이라 할지라도 그리스도께서는 그 한
영혼을 위하여 죽으셨을 것이다 .”( 실물 187)
“So if there had been but one lost soul, Christ would have died for that
one.”(COL 187)
눅 15:11,12 또 이르시되 어떤 사람에게 두 아들이 있는데 그 둘째가
아버지에게 말하되 아버지여 재산 중에서 내게 돌아올 분깃을 내게
주소서 하는지라 아버지가 그 살림을 각각 나눠 주었더니
Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. And the younger of them said
to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he
divided to them his livelihood.
눅 15:13 그 후 며칠이 안 되어 둘째 아들이 재물을 다 모아 가지고 먼
나라에 가 거기서 허랑방탕하여 그 재산을 낭비하더니
And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed
to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.
 눅 15:20 아직도 거리가 먼데 아버지가 그를 보고 측은히 여겨 달려가
목을 안고 입을 맞추니
“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off,
his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and
kissed him.
“ 아직‘상거가 먼데’도 그의 부친은 아들의 모습을 분간했다 . 사랑은 눈을
밝게 한다 . 여러 해 동안의 죄된 생애로 초췌해졌을지라도 그것이
아버지의 눈으로 하여금 그 아들을 몰라보게 할 수는 없었다 . 그는‘
측은히 여겨 달려가’사랑의 팔로 그의‘목을’오랫 동안 꼭‘안’고 있었
다 .”( 실물 203)
But while he is yet “a great way off” the father discerns his form. Love is of quick
sight. Not even the degradation of the years of sin can conceal the son from the
father’s eyes. He “had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck” in a long,
clinging, tender embrace. (COL 203)
눅 15:23 그리고 살진 송아지를 끌어다가 잡으라 우리가 먹고 즐기자
And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;
 눅 15:28 그가 노하여 들어가고자 하지 아니하거늘
“But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and
pleaded with him.
눅 15:29,30 아버지께 대답하여 이르되 내가 여러 해 아버지를 섬겨
명을 어김이 없거늘 내게는 염소 새끼라도 주어 나와 내 벗으로 즐기게
하신 일이 없더니 아버지의 살림을 창녀들과 함께 삼켜 버린 이 아들이
돌아오매 이를 위하여 살진 송아지를 잡으셨나이다 So he answered and
said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never trans-
gressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young
goat, that I might make merry with my friends. But as soon as this son of yours
came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf
for him.’
“ 그는 이 때까지의 그의 봉사는 아들로써가 아닌 , 종으로써의
봉사였다는 것을 밝히 드러냈다 .”( 실물 207)
“He makes it plain that his own service has been that of a servant rather
than a son.”(COL 207)
“ 스스로 의롭다는 생각은 사람으로 하여금 하나님을 잘못 나타내게 할 뿐
아니라 형제들을 냉정하고 비평적인 눈으로 보게 한다 . 맏아들은
이기심과 질투심에 사로잡혀 그의 동생의 모든 행동을 비평하고
조그마한 결점에 대해서 비난하고자 늘 엿보고 있었다 .
“Self-righteousness not only leads men to misrepresent God, but makes them
coldhearted and critical toward their brethren. The elder son, in his selfish-
ness and jealousy, stood ready to watch his brother, to criticize every action,
and to accuse him for the least deficiency.
그는 동생의 잘못을 하나하나 찾아내어 할 수 있는 대로 그것을
이용하고자 했다 . 그리하여 그는 자기의 용서하지 않는 정신을
변명하려 했다 . 오늘날에도 많은 사람들이 이와 같은 일을 하고 있다 .
He would detect every mistake, and make the most of every wrong act.
Thus he would seek to justify his own unforgiving spirit. Many today are
doing the same thing.
한 사람이 홍수같이 밀려오는 시험에 맞서 싸우기를 시작하면 그들은
곁에서 완고하고 , 고집스럽고 , 불평하고 , 비방하는 태도로 방관하고
있다 . 저희가 하나님의 자녀라고 자칭하지만 실제로는 사단의 정신을
따라 행하고 있는 것이다 .”( 실물 210)
While the soul is making its very first struggles against a flood of tempta-
tions, they stand by, stubborn, self-willed, complaining, accusing. They
may claim to be children of God, but they are acting out the spirit of Sa-
tan.”(COL 210)
