LITERACY focus standards


CCSS RL1.3 Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story using key details.
We use a Retell Rope to identify and describe a storys setting, characters, problem, major events from the beginning, middle, end, and the solution. Students should be able to orally tell you about these story elements. This weeks basal story is A Fox and a Kit. The genre is literacy non-fiction.

MATH

CCSS 1.OA.1 Use addition and subtraction within 20 (within 10 for now) to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions.
This week we will work on subtraction stories (take away and missing parts). We will also introduce Fact Families and fact family triangles. They are similar to the Part-Part-Whole graphics that Envision Math uses.

CCSS RF1.1a Recognize the distinguishing features of a sentence.
