LITERACY focus standards


CCSS RL1.3 Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story using key details.
We use a Retell Rope to identify and describe a storys setting, characters, problem, major events from the beginning, middle, end, and the solution. Students should be able to orally tell you about these story elements. This weeks basal story is The Big Blue Ox. The genre is animal fantasy.

CCSS 1.OA.1 Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
This week we will use Math tools to introduce subtraction and to demonstrate how it is the inverse operation to addition.
