Terms
Pure substance made of only one kind of matter and has definite (or unique)
properties. Examples include sugar, salt, iron, copper, and aluminum.
Element a pure substance which cannot be broken down into other
substances. Elements individually, or in combination, form every object in the
world!
Compound a substance which is made of two or more elements that are
chemically combined. Some examples include water (H 20) and carbon dioxide
(CO2)
Mixture a substance which consists of two or more substance that are in
the same space (or container),but NOT chemically combines. Think of
chocolate chip cookies, or blueberry muffins!
