Objective 15

Describe stimulus generalization, higher order conditioning,

discrimination, and extinct in classical conditioning.

Stimulus generalization is the tendency for conditioned stimulus to have similar

responses after the response has been conditioned. People or animals can be
taught to discriminate between objects that are similar to the stimuli and the real
thing. Extinction in classical conditioning is when the conditioned response
gradually weakens resulting from the behavior decreasing. Extinction can
happen in classical conditioning if there is no reward. Higher order conditioning
is when a neutral stimulus is paired with a conditioned stimulus to produce the
same conditioned response.
