Apples
Date: October 12th, 2016
Supervisor: Katelyn Murray
Lead Teacher: Heather Johnson

Preassessment and Findings:


While ______ and I were looking at the picture of the teachers, I asked her what color
the paper was. She said red. I asked her what else is red and she said Apples. I
asked her if apples can be any other colors and she said no. I asked ______ what a
color in her book was and she said red. I asked her what other things where red and
she said candy. I asked her what fruit was red and she said apples. I asked her if
all apples were red and she said that some can be green. I asked her if all apples
tasted the same and she said no
From these observations, I discovered that they know what an apple is, but they lack
the understanding that there can be different kinds of apples.

Children and Learning/Development Goals:


1. ______. Sensory will help her with her goal to know her letters as she finds different
apples with letters on them buried in the dirt.
2. ______. He will be able to follow instructions in the science area as he washes his
hands before sitting down and as he follows the teachers instructions when he uses
the knife to cut the apples.
3. _______. She will be able to interact with other children in the dramatic play area as
they pick apples of the tree and as they pretend to buy apples with the cash register.
4. ____. In art she will be able to work on identifying colors by using a variety of different
colors and by having a teacher ask her what colors she is using and correcting her

on to a blank piece of white paper.

Playground
*Gross Motor: Description: There will be pictures of each Laminated pictures of each

the apple tree.

Transition
As soon as the children are done cleaning up, I will shake a music maker. I will tell the children that
in the block area there are paper apples with their names on them. I will tell them to find their
name and sit by it. There will be tape on the apple so the teachers can put it on the childrens
tags, so they will know what group they are in when we go on the field trip. I will tell them that we
are going to the orchard and I will tell them what I expect as we go. They will need to stay with
their color group the whole time we are on the field trip and hold on to each others hands. I will
give the field trip tags to the teachers and they will give them to the students in their group. The
teachers will be in charge of the students in their color group. On the way to the orchard we will
play I spy.

apples grow on trees and when they are ripe
enough they get picked off the tree to be
eaten. I will than ask them if they have ever
picked an apple.

When we gather back together, I will ask them
to show me the apples they picked and I will
ask them the differences they see in them.
If we do not go to the orchard, for this activity I
will have a chart with pictures of the different
apples we will try in small focus. We will look at
the different shapes, sizes and colors of the
apples and then I will ask the children what
apples they think will be the sweetest, most
sour. I will mark their predictions on the chart.
3. There are I will hold an apple in my hands and tell the
different parts of children that there are different parts of an
an apple, core, apple. I will point to the stem and ask them
skin, flesh, stem, what that is. If they dont, I will tell them. I will

then have another apple with me that is cut in
half and I will show it to them and point to the
flesh and ask them what it is. I will let them

we will weigh each apple and buy them.
If we dont go to the orchard, for this activity I
will cut up the apple and show the children the
different parts. I would also let them pass the
apple around, so that they can feel the
different parts of the apple.

Donut Song I will give each of the children a big penny. I will sing the song Pennies
and one child will come up and put their penny in box I will (IWP),
have then I will open the donut box and the child will pick a Money box

Movement Dice There will be two dice for the children to roll. One of the dice Movement
will have different movements on it indicating what Dice (IWP)
movement we will do. The other dice has numbers indicating
how many times we will do the movement. The children will
take turns rolling the dice.
