IELG Outcome: IELG D3 G31 (Age 16-38 mo.) CI4: Waits to take turns, with assistance this
activity
The skills this activity promotes: Taking turns by waiting for their name to be called, Language skills Avery,
as they sing the song, and listening skills as they listen for their name to be called. Paxton
Activity Description: The toddlers will participate in a song about a donut as they hold a special
penny waiting to trade it for a donut when their name is called.

Adaptations for individual toddlers: Some toddlers may need to have a teacher sit with them and
help them go up when their name is called.

Teacher Script

Introduction Script (What will you say and do to get their attention and introduce the
activity?): I will tell them Today we are going to sing a song about donuts. I will show them one of
the donuts. I will say You will need to buy your donut, so you will all need a special penny. I will show
them one of the pennies.

Expectations for children (What will you say and do to show the children how to participate
in the activity?): I will tell the children You all need to wait until your name is called to come up and
before you get your donut, you need to pay me youre your penny. I will than have another teacher
come up and give me their penny, take and donut, and sit back down. I will say Once the teachers give
you your penny, you need to old it in your hands until you buy your donut, so it doesnt get lost. Once
you get your donut, just hold it in your hands as you sit down. Dont put it in your mouth or touch your
friends with it.

Handing out props (how will you hand out props): I will repeat to the toddlers Hold onto your
penny until it is your turn to buy a donut. I will give 2 teachers 6 pennies to give to the toddlers and
then I will give the teachers pennies to hold.

During the activity (What are you saying and doing during the activity for the children to
model?): I will tell each before it is their turn to come up, so they can be prepared and, so the other
teachers can help them if it is needed. We will sing Down around the corner at the bakery shop, There
were tiny little doughnuts with sugar on top! Along came (Name) with a penny, And he bought the
(Color) and ran on home! This song will be repeated until each child has had a turn.

Closing Script (What will you say and do to end the activity and transition to the next
thing?): I will say We all have our donuts now. Can we pretend to take a bit like this? I will put my
donut below my chin, they see that I dont put it in my mouth, and then I will open and close my mouth.

Collecting props (how will you collect the props?) I will tell the toddlers Lets stay where we are
at (sitting on the floor) and give our donuts to the teachers when they ask for them, and then we will be
ready for our next activity.
