B. Activity

(Math Situational Role Play)

Each group has a situational problem that is given by

the teacher and the students’ task is to analyze the
problem that they would solve and present in front.

First and Second Group (situation)

The Senior High School students want to eat in a
silogan and they decided to eat in Gatay’s silogan. This
silogan has a new promo to invite more customers.
Their promo is called “Create your own Silog”
These are the choices:

RICE: Steamed, Fried

VIANDS: Hotdog, Longganisa, Corned Beef
EGG: Fried, Boiled
DRINKS: Iced Tea, Mineral Water, Orange Juice
How many possible silog sets can be prepared?

Third and Fourth Group (situation)

Anne Curtis Smith, a known celebrity from the
Philippines is going to Thailand. She is planning her
outfits to bring and is thinking of possible matches. She
wants it to be Instagram-worthy.
She packed these in her luggage:

TOP: Plain White Shirt, Floral Blouse, Cropped top

BOTTOM: Pants, Shorts, Tokong, Leggings
FOOTWEAR: Sandals, Flipflops
ACCESSORIES: Necklace, Earrings
How many combination of outfit can Anne mix and
match?

C. Analysis

 The teacher will ask the students about the

activity.
 The teacher will ask the students of what is the
connection of the activity to the new topic.
 The teacher will ask the students, If they know
the topic for this day.

D. Abstraction

 Discuss the Fundamental Counting Principle

 Teach the students on how to solve the problem
using the Fundamental Counting Principle.
 Give an example of Fundamental Counting
Principle Problems to solve and to students
know this topic.

These are the examples given:

 The MNHS School Canteen serves a lunch that

includes a drink, a sandwich, and a dessert.
The customer can choose from 4 different
drinks, 7 different sandwiches, and 3 different
desserts. How many ways could a customer eat
at the restaurant and be served a different
selection of items for lunch?

1. Determine the number of decisions.

These are three decisions since the
customer must choose a drink, a sandwich,
and a dessert.
2. Determine the number of options for
each decision.
The problem indicates that there are 4
options for the first decision (drink, 7 for
the second (sandwich), and 3 for the third
(dessert).
3. Multiply these numbers together to
determine the number of possible
lunches.
The customer could eat at the restaurant 4
x 7 x 3 = 84 days and never get served the
same selection of items for lunch.

 In the literature class of Mrs. Syjueco, a

student must read one mystery novel, one
historical novel, and one science fiction novel.
In how many ways can these requirements be
met if there are 10 period novels to choose
from, 14 historical novels, and 20 science
fiction novels?

1. Determine the number of decisions.

There are three decisions; a mystery novel,
an historical novel, and 20 for the science
fiction novel.
2. Determine number of options for each
decision.
There are 10 options for the mystery novel,
14 for the historical novel, and 20 for the
science fiction novel.
3. Multiplying these numbers together to
determine the number of ways in which
the assignments can be fulfilled.
The reading requirements can be fulfilled
in 10 x 14 x 20 = 2,800 different ways.

E. Application

 The teacher will give an example of

Fundamental Counting Principle that may
students’ solve on the board.

Example given:

 A license plate has two letters followed by

three digits. How many different license
plates can be made using this scheme?

F. Generalization

 The teacher will ask the students about

their learning in the discussion.
 The teacher will ask the students on how
they apply the topic in their daily lives.

IV. Assessment

Answer the following problems to your notebook:

 In the Philippines, a cellphone number

consists of 11 digits. Given that the first
four digit is 0918 (SMART), followed by 7
digits, how many possible cellphone
numbers can be made?

 In Barangay Hulong Duhat consists of 10

women, each of whom has 3 children. If
one woman and one of her children are to
be chosen as mother and child of the year,
How many different choices are possible?

Note: After the students’ answering these problems to their

notebook, Teacher will ask to answer these on a board.

V. Assignment

 List down all the Properties of

Fundamental Counting Principle.
