PROJECT DORP D-eveloping O-ptimism to R-eaders who needs P-roficiency

RATIONALE

“Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to


make reading one of his needs, is good for him.” Love for reading is a skill that
needs to be inculcated to learners for their academic achievement.
Promoting the love for reading is a must to schools. Increasing the reading
proficiency level of students is one of the aims of the PROJECT DORP. In
addition, it also bridges the gap of the students who are on their frustration and
independent levels.
In traditional reading set up, the teacher will just let the reader reads the
text, but only the independent readers will be able to have a good grasp of
the lessons, the students who are on the frustration level are being left behind.
This is an alarming situation that alarms the language teachers. Thus, PROJECT
DORP was conceptualized.
The initial response from the teachers concerned is that would be
challenging, but the assurance of acquiring easy and effective reading in the
case of the students who are on their frustration levels pacify them to accept
open arms the challenge. Paired reading, tutoring, group reading were
employed in language subjects.
This project has been an answered prayer for every language teacher,
reading sessions takes place with fun and without forcing them to participate
in the reading sessions. Finally, the project instills love for reading, virtue of
oneness and cooperation among the learners.
