1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to ensure that Asphalt Cutting at Roads is carried out in
accordance with the correct method and procedures. This method statement details the
procedures to be followed for Asphalt Cutting at Roads for pipe laying or ducts construction
across roads.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
PM/DPM shall ensure that all necessary tools & Instruments, safety protective equipments
are provided along with properly trained and qualified surveyors and made
available sufficiently in advance to the commencement of the work.

Safety Officer has to implement and enforce all safety precautions. He will also inspect the work
site regularly, and report deficiencies to the DPM / PM.

Site Engineer is responsible for the construction work and shall delegate a named Site
Supervisor who shall ensure that this procedure is fully implemented including
documentation till completion.

Surveyor is responsible to ensure that all surveying instrument being used are calibrated
and having valid calibration certificate and he shall ensure that all information,
data etc. required is to be taken and recorded on his Field Book.

4.0 ACTIONS
4.1 After getting permission from the Department, start the work with a proper road safety.
4.2 Where trenches are open-cut in asphalt road, the road shall be sawn cut in straight lines
prior to excavation. The bottom of the trench excavation shall be compacted to 98% of
the MDD or as specified.
4.3 Installation of pipe line or water ducts to be completed as per drawing & specification.
4.4 Backfill will proceed in layers and compacted to 87-90% MDD up to the sub-grade or as
specified in 150mm layer after the pipe laying or duct construction is completed.
4.5 Approved warning tape shall be laid, that the minimum vertical distance should be kept
300mm above the crown of the pipe.
4.6 Above warning tape, approved material to be backfill in required height and compact to
98% MDD, for compaction suitable steel roller will be used.
4.7 Approved reinforced concrete cast in-situ slab will be provided of height 400mm, and
width is 200mm extend in either side of trench as per attached drawings, expansion
joints shall be provide in 8m centre to centre in longitudinal direction.
Reinstatement will be done as specified in the contract documents.
