Save yourself the embarrassment, don’t try to
change the name of the Chiefs.
Lamar Hunt, owner of the American Football
League’s Dallas Texans (1960-62), decided to
move his team to another city for the 1963 season
because he didn’t want to compete with the
upstart Dallas Cowboys in trying to put bums
in the bleachers. He entertained the thought of
moving his franchise to Atlanta or Miami but was
convinced by the Mayor of Kansas City to move
north and not east.
Hunt agreed to relocate to Kansas City on May
22, 1963, swayed by Kansas City Mayor Harold
Roe Bartle to do so, who promised to triple season
ticket sales and expand the capacity of Municipal
Stadium. A fan contest to re-name the team came
up with Chiefs, not American Indian chiefs, but
named after Mayor Harold Roe “Chief ” Bartle.
So, to all you social-justice warriors out there
trying to execute another change-the-sports-team-
name game, beware of the facts just presented to
you. Save yourself the embarrassment!
P.S. Has one noticed yet how it is the far-
far-left Marxists — not to be confused with the
center-leaning members of the Democrat Party
— executing this change-the-name game, and not
the ethnic groups themselves?
Here’s an example. The Edmonton Eskimos of
the Canadian Football League, which has a good
out-reach relationship with the Inuit people, are
currently under fire for the team name Eskimos,
not by the Inuit people, but a team sponsor!

Free back-packs with all the basic back-to-school
supplies stuffed inside are once again available for
families in our community that can use a little extra
help as the new school year rolls around.
“Supplies have gone up in price so much that
some families might need some help,” said the
Backpack Fairies, “especially those who have
multiple children to tend for.”
If you have a child or children in grades 1-12
within the community who needs a backpack filled
with back-to-school supplies — or refill a backpack
you received previously —here’s what you do:
