Duck Creek area with homes, structures and roofs. A
wind gust of 89 mph at the Malta Airport at 4:55 p.m.
was tops in northeast Montana while St. Marie wasn’t
far from that, clocking in at 83 mph. South Sawmill
Creek on the south end of Fort Peck Reservoir also had
plenty of damage with winds gusting to 85 mph. Miles
City had a blast of 75 mph, so it goes to show how large

Did you know that the Washington
Redskins logo is actually designed in
honor of a legendary Montanan from the
Blackfeet Nation?
Jason Blasco had a great piece published by 406
MT Sports back in January of 2019 detailing the
history of the Redskins logo:
The image depicted on the Redskins helmet is of
John “Two Guns” Whitecalf, a Blackfeet Chief whose
likeness also appeared on the Buffalo nickel, minted
from 1913-38.
“When I look at the logo, I mostly think of my
dad because he was a person who found pride in the
Redskins logo, of having our people in the spotlight,
and being represented by a big-time professional team,”
Lance Wetzel said. “Back in that time frame, there
wasn’t a whole lot of positives about Native Americans.
To look at that helmet and see the representation there,
I see a whole lot of pride.”
So, for all you virtue-signaling white liberals who
think you’re being “woke” by demanding the removal
of the Washington Redskins logo — maybe you should
try studying history instead of trying to whitewash it.
The same goes for the easily-bullied corporations
who are now jumping on the bandwagon and pulling
memorabilia honoring a Blackfeet Chief from their
shelves.
According to Fox News:
Redskins owner Dan Snyder has long resisted calls
to change the name the football team has used since
the 1930s. However, recent criticism from corporate
sponsors such as FedEx — which paid the Redskins
$205 million for naming rights to FedEx Field in
Landover, MD — has Snyder promising to conduct a
“thorough review” on the matter.

Service for Blanche Schuler
Blanche F. Schuler, 97, died of natural causes at
Billings’ Tender Nest Assisted Living early July 5, 2020.
Family will receive friends at Bell Mortuary,
Glasgow, Thursday, July 9 from 5 to 7 pm. Her funeral
will be Friday, July 10, at the Hinsdale American Legion
Hall at 10:30 am, with burial following in Hinsdale
Hillview Cemetery.
A reception in her honor will be held at the Hall
following the service and burial.

WHO’S WHO IN ST. MARIE
I SO love this little place called St. Marie!
The people who live here make it the place to be.
Gary Tihlarik is one such man
who helps others any way he can.
Gary and his delightful wife of 17 years, Linda,
moved to St.. Marie in 2004 in order to be closer to
her family. She is very active in our community, as
was her dad, Robert Anderson. Her saintly mother,
Toby, recently went home to Jesus and is missed daily.
Gary is a General Contractor by trade, and
began putting his gifts to work for our community
in 2007. He continues his service as our Maintenance
Technician to this day. He not simply attends to those
issues needing repair, but takes the time to explain
how and why the issue occurred and how to prevent
future occurrences. He has given me countless
educational hours regarding my home.
His humble nature and consistency in putting
others before himself, makes him an example of what
St. Marie is all about: People helping people; Using
gifts to benefit the community; Loving your neighbor.
One fourth of July, he spent two hours in my
home to determine the source of a leak. He displayed
the same modest demeanor, despite interrupting his
enjoyment of the holiday.
Gary has done countless jobs for our community,
including large projects such as remodels and
bathroom additions. The first time I hired him for a
personal job, I was shocked at my quote. I am from
the West Coast and am accustomed to paying much
larger amounts. After conversation, I finally asked
him why he doesn’t charge more — at LEAST what
the going rate for the area is.
His exact response then, remains the same
during this interview: “because the people here can’t
afford to pay that.”
Gary and Linda have four children: Tanya,
Jennifer, Gary Jr, and Joseph. They are proud to enjoy
11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Gary gives credit to his wife Linda, Jesus, and
the many faithful prayers of his family. Gary recently
underwent heart valve replacement and a battle with
liver cancer. Jesus is faithful and restored his health.
WHAT HE LOVES MOST: It is a peaceful and
nice place to live that is easy on the pocketbook.
ADVICE FOR NEWCOMERS: Follow the rules.
WHAT OTHERS SAY ABOUT GARY: Very
kind, considerate, honest, a man of his word, loves
his family, loyal, impeccable character, and easy to
get along with.

family. I am honored to know you and your family,
and be able to call you my friends.
