We were going to write a cutline for this past Saturday
night halftime photo, but couldn’t have done a better job
than what was written by our Glasgow Athletic Director
Brenner Flaten: “Ladies and Gentleman. This man came
to tonight’s Scottie Football game. That man is Coach
Darrell Hueth. Coach Hueth is a Glasgow Scottie legend.
Coach Hueth was the Head Coach of Scottie Football
from 1960 to 1966 and Scottie Wrestling from 1961 to
1967. During that time he led the wrestling team to 3
Eastern A and 3 State Class A Championships in 1963,
1964, & 1966. In his final two seasons as the head man

Undefeated Seasons in 1965 and 1966. Unquestionably,
two of the greatest teams in not only school history, but in
State History. This is was first home Scottie football game
in 57 years since he was the head coach. Everyone in

awesome human being for his contributions to the
foundations of our athletic programs at GHS. Ladies and

Netters battle at Choteau

Every year the Choteau Classic Invitational
Volleyball Tournament features some of the top teams
in Class B and C. This year was no difference with
Florence and the host Choteau, both state tournament
teams, participating. Two-time defending state Class C
champions Manhattan Christian was back again.
A young Glasgow squad played 13 matches in the
two day event. The Scotties finished with a 2-11 record.
Second-year coach Brooke Martin texted me some
comments:
“As far as this weekend goes, the girls got tons of reps,
which they needed,” she said. “We started a sophomore
and two freshmen. We only have three upperclassmen
on the team, so it will be a big growth year for them.”
The Scotties lost to Choteau 21-12 and 21-13,
Florence 21-19, 21-11, defeated Cut Bank 19-21, 21-
8, lost to Three Forks 21-18, 19-21, Wolf Point 21-11,
21-14, Shelby 21-16, 21-18, Three Forks 21-11, 21-12,
Ennis 21-16, 21-18, Wolf Point 21-18, 20-21, Florence
21-14, 21-11, Choteau 21-9, 21-16 and defeated Simms
21-20, 21-12.
“The girls had a lot of really great moments and some
tough ones, but that’s how we build,” Martin said. “They
are fast and athletic and competitive, so I am excited to
see where we go through the season.”
The Scotties host Chinook Thursday night in a
non-conference match. Chinook is once again a Class
B school, competing in district 1B and Northern B.
Saturday the Scotties travel to Chinook for a tournament.

At Police In Bid To Get His Own Cool Mugshot

candidate Ron DeSantis
was seen last night waving
around a joint in front of
local police officers in a
desperate attempt to get
arrested and have a cool
mugshot just like Trump.
“How do you do,
officer? A fine morning
for a marijuana!” said
DeSantis, lighting a
joint. “Uh-oh, look at
me! I’ve got one of those
marijuana cigarette thingies, and I’m totally smoking it!
Better break out the cuffs, officer!”
DeSantis proceeded to attempt taking a puff, then
instantly collapsed in a coughing fit. “Holy -- cough
-- crap! That is -- cough, cough -- terrible!” shouted
DeSantis, doubled over. “Who would do this? Oh
man. Wait - officer, does that still count as doing a
marijuana??”
According to police, the officers confiscated the
apparent joint and handed the Governor a bottle of
water.
“Sir, this isn’t weed. These are lawn clippings,” said
Officer Ramon Gonzales, putting out the lit end. “Even
if it was weed, for a first-time offender we would just
tell you to put the dang thing out and go home to your
family. I know you need the mugshot sir, but I’m sorry
— you’re going to have to do a lot better than this.”
At publishing time, DeSantis was reportedly
spotted at a Wendy’s asking if the officer could arrest
him for getting Sprite when he only asked for a water
cup.

 OBITUARY
Betty Brandt
Elizabeth (Betty) Ethel Funk Brandt went to be with her
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday August 28, 2023,
at Valley View Home at the age of ninety-eight. Betty was
born Jan. 24, 1925, to Ferdinand J. and Agatha Peters Funk at
Hydo, Montana, six miles from the Canadian Border north
of Chinook in Blaine County.
Mom was saved when she was thirteen on July 28, 1938,
at Park Grove where Rev. Williams from California was
holding a revival meeting. Mrs. Dyke and Mrs. Koslovshie
(friend and Sunday school teacher) influenced her in her
young years. Mom was Baptized Aug. 7, 1938, at Fort Peck
Lake by Mr. Everet and Mr. McClain.
Mom was a baby when her family moved by covered
wagon about 225 miles to their new farm near Larsen,
Montana in the spring of 1926. Mom attended Harmony
School in Larslan. Due to the drought the family was forced
to move to Glasgow in the fall 0f 1933.Then in the spring of
1934 the family moved to New Deal, a small-town part of the
Fort Peck Dam Site, when the construction of the Fort Peck
Dam started.
Mom’s dad bought a shack in Glasgow where mom and
her sisters, Elsie, Violet, and Delsie, lived while attending
high school with mom graduating in 1943. With the wartime
emergency teacher shortage, mom went to Northern
Montana College in Havre to obtain her professional teacher
status. Her first teaching job was at the Bjorkland School
north of Nashua where she met and fell in love with her future
cowboy-farmer husband Ivan W. Brandt. They were married
on June 25, 1944, at the Fort Peck Community Church.
Dad and Mom purchased the Melvin Stand farm six
miles north of Nashua in 1964 after living 20 years on the
Otto and Effie Brandt (dad’s parents) farm. Dad and mom
were engaged in farming and ranching for 50 years; during
those years working as 4-H leaders, seeing all their children
through 4-H.
While on the farm, Mom continued teaching,
substituting in Nashua School. She owned and operated a
ceramic shop in the basement of their home. This time her
students were adults, instead of kids. Mom became a certified
ceramic instructor in the late 1970s. Mom went on to become
a certified porcelain doll instructor, adding dolls to her shop.
Due to dad’s health, they sold the farm in 1995 and moved
to Glasgow where they lived for 25 years. While in Glasgow,
Mom continued to own and operate a shop in the basement
of her home, retiring at the age of ninety-one.
Mom proudly displayed her dolls in three showcases,
which you could see while visiting her home. Mom and her
students won many awards from local, state, and national
ceramic and doll competitions. Mom also sold dolls and gave
her children, grandchildren,
nieces, and nephews dolls.

death by her husband Ivan,

Funk, father and mother-in-
law Otto and Effie Brandt,
Baby Robin (infancy) Brandt,
son Ronald Brandt, nephew
John Wessman, who dad and
mom raised in his teenage
years, brothers Isaac (infancy)
Funk, Edward P. Funk, Robert (infancy) Funk, sisters Esther
Presser, Elsie Wessman, Violet Hustad, and Delsie Brooks,
brothers-in-law Frank Presser, Myron Hustad, and Robert
Brooks, sister-in law Marle Brandt of Gig Harber, Wash.;
son-in-law Melvin Shephard, daughter-in-law Nancy Brandt
(Don’s wife), brother-in-law Gene Brandt and sister-in-law
Doris Brandt, and great grandson Baby Virts (at birth).
Betty’s last few years were happily spent as a resident in
Valley View Home in Glasgow Montana. She loved her Lord
and Savior all her life and was active in Bible study groups
over the years. When she made her home in Valley View,
she asked if there was a Bible Study Group that she could
attend. There was not so she set about getting permission and
started a daily Bible reading for her fellow residents. She read
faithfully until recently. The home has been very appreciative
of this and supported her to her passing.
Betty is survived by her children Dixie Shephard,
Glasgow; Virginia (Jon) Steffenhagen, Lake City, Minn.;
Don Brandt of Kirkland, Wash.; Dean (Aileen) Brandt, Fort
Peck; Michael Brandt, Billings; Tim (Pam) Brandt, Helena;
Daughter-in-law Karen Brandt (Ronald’s wife) Bozeman;
and grandchildren Robert Virts, Joann (Larry) Blankenship,
Jonathan (Courtney) Smith, Leslie Smith, Elizabeth Bettich,
Matthew (Jackie) Steffenhagen, Jenifer (Eric) Marcellus,
Dan (Theresa) Brandt, Kari Hadley, Tyla (Ben) Martens,
Logan Brandt, Megan Brandt, Tyrel Brandt, Cyrus Brandt,
Jerami (Tabitha) Brandt, and Jarrett (Christian) Brandt,
numerous nieces and nephews along with numerous great-
grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. And a special
friend Alan Kliewer who brought laughs and joy to her life.
Funeral services will be held at the Glasgow Evangelical
Church with Pastor Seth Runner officiating on Saturday,
September 2nd at 11:00 AM. The burial will be in Highland
Cemetery beside her husband, Ivan.
The Family would like to thank Valley View Home
staff for their loving care and special friendships with Betty
while she was in residence there. She treasured the special
friendships she made with all.
