Valley County Transit
running short of drivers
It was noted in Friday’s Buzz that the Glasgow
School District is at risk of having to cut more bus routes
due to a bus driver shortage. Now the Valley County
Transit is in “the same boat”.
Due to a driver shortage, Valley County Transit
hours of service are being reduced on Mondays effective
September 25th. Service will now be available as follows:
Monday 7:15 am to 5:00 pm
Tuesday through Friday from 7:15 am to 11:00 pm
Saturday from 7:30 am to 11:00 pm
Sunday from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm
Service to Nashua and Fort Peck remains the same
(MUST schedule in advance): Monday through Friday -
leave Glasgow at 7:20 am and 4:15 pm
Service to St. Marie will be as follows (MUST call in ½
hour prior to departure from Glasgow):
Sunday - leave Glasgow at 12:00 noon and 5:00 pm
Monday - leave Glasgow at 11:30 am and 5:15 pm, no
late evening service
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday - leave

Baker wins again, Scotties to run the Mighty Mo Thursday

Competing in their fourth huge
cross country meet of the season, the
Glasgow Scotties continue to show
improvement. The Scotties were in
Lewistown for the Fergus Eagles
Invitational Friday.
The times were slower as the
harriers ran on the Pine Meadows Golf
Course, which was hilly, making the
runners times slower.
Glasgow coach Tim Phillips said
the times would be slower due to the
course.
Tanae Baker won her second
straight race, running a 19:57.52. Last
week in Havre the junior ran a 19:01.81.
Baker won the Havre Invite and was
second in Kalispell, which was a larger
meet.
Hardin swept the team races with
the boys scoring 74 and the girls 36.
Glasgow boys were ninth with 229 and
girls seventh with 167. There were 12
boys teams and 93 runners and 10 girls
teams and 84 runners. The Glasgow
middle school boys won their third
straight meet, while the girls were
seventh.
The Scotties will be at the 54th
Annual Frazer Invitational Thursday.
The meet starts at the Old Indian
Highway. Saturday the Scotties will be
at the Miles City Stampede Invitational.

Football Field?
Laurel High School completed 14 seasons
on their artificial playing surface before a
recent “re-carpet”. Even at year 15, Fieldturf
tested Laurel’s surface and deemed it meeting
standards and safe for continued use. That
was a surface with higher annual use than
Glasgow’s. Laurel sits alongside a metro area
in Montana and they sponsor Football and
Boys and Girls Soccer as part of their school’s
athletic offerings.

The Cottonwood Inn owners and management
want to assure you of our support for the proposed
School Bond to fund the Scottie Recharged project.
As one of the largest private businesses in
Glasgow, we understand the importance of our
Schools and school activities to this community. We
employ 70 to 80 community members whose children
and grandchildren attend school in our district. It
is important for our business to be successful to
provide for those families and individuals.
And our school children deserve facilities that
are safe. The injury potential of a football or track
field that is not safe is very real. These injuries could
tenacity, and confidence “mentally.” But physically safe?
Football is a contact sport. Concussions, broken legs,
tweaked knees, a broken nose or split lip were injuries
of the past “on grass and dirt fields!” Artificial turf adds
to more injuries as the NFL now says.
There should be separate Bonds for different needs
and the priority should be on academics according to
most folks I’ve talked to. What items are already in the
budget prior to the Bond issue? Football field first, then
left over money for school buildings? What builds mind
and body best, football or academics? That’s another
perspective on the Bond issue.

maintenance schedule. If our field is tested
and approved for 20 years of use, we intend to
operate for 20 years.
The current cost of a re-carpet is only 10%
of the cost of our proposed track and field bond
project. Every re-carpet after the initial field
cost will only further cost savings as there will
be no need to address issues below the surface.
Proper monetization on the sidelines of our
proposed artificial turf and the scoreboard will
allow us to annually earmark funds for a future
re-carpet or rubberized track re-finish. This
process may occur on average; every 15 years.

Glasgow has been proud to be the regional
center in Northeast Montana. By keeping all of
our public facilities up to date we can attract more
residents, including teachers and medical staff to
Glasgow.
We are a community that continues to grow
by reinvesting in projects such as the Scottie
Recharged. We are fortunate to have a community
that is looking towards the future.
The Cottonwood Inn being in existence is
because of a group of community people looking
forward. The business has grown to be one of the
top tax paying businesses that will be paying 45% of
the project.
