Go, Lions, Go!

It was good times for the Lustre Christian Lions and fans Wednesday as they rolled passed the Savage Warriors.
Lions move onto semis
Lustre Christian made it look
easy as the Lions coasted to a 64-28
over Savage in an opening round
win at the Eastern C Divisional
Wednesday night.
The Lions (21-1) roared out
to a 12-2 first quarter lead. Lustre
Christian held a 32-13 advantage at
the break.
The Lions, going deep into
their bench, continued to score in
the second half, holding a 47-23
lead.
The Lions were clicking from all
over, hitting perimeter shots as well
as buckets inside. Their defense held
down a team that had an explosive
offense.
Lustre Christian connected on
27 of 66 field goals, while holding
Savage to 10 of 30.
Cayden Klatt led the Lions with
15 points, Cam Reddig followed
with 13, Terran Joseph had 10,
Byron Ewing six, Joel Reddig four,
and Clay Reddig three.
Zane Pilgram led the Warriors
with nine points.

Glasgow earns some hardware

They had their best tournament and brought home
some hardware. Glasgow played its best Northern B
Divisional Tournaments. The Scotties beat Malta to claim
the third place trophy. Glasgow was hoping Poplar would
beat Fairview in the championship game so the Scotties
could challenge. But the Warriors were playing their best
basketball and defeated the Indians.
It has been a long dry spell since Glasgow has
brought home a trophy from the divisional. It was 2014
when Glasgow won the Northern B title. The Scotties won
their first game at the State Class B Tournament, defeating
Jefferson 49-40. Glasgow then lost to Columbus, 54-37,
and Malta, 64-53.
Glasgow (13-12) was so close to playing a challenge
game on Monday night, but Fairview spoiled the plans.
The Warriors beat Poplar to claim the divisional title.
The Scotties needed Poplar to win as Glasgow had
played the Indians in a semifinal game.
Glasgow wrapped up its season with a nice win
over Malta. The Scotties had lost twice to the Mustangs
during the regular season. But this time the Scotties had
their eyes on a possible challenge game and a trip to
state.
Glasgow had lady luck on its side when Malta’s
Bohdi Brenden stepped to the foul line for a pair of
free throws. The junior is a good free throw shooter.
He made the first throw, but with five seconds to play
in the game the second one hit the rim and fell off.
Myles Yoakam grabbed the rebound and was fouled.
The junior made one of his throws, giving the Scotties
a 70-68 win.
“We beat the number one seed from the other
side. The guys were tired but we fought through it,” said While he didn’t score a whole lot of points this season,
Glasgow coach Paul Yoakam. “We got two wins out of it.” Nick Solorzano hit some huge shots when the Scotties

“Nick played the best defense of the year. He ended
up guarding the Brenden kid,” said Yoakam. “Wyatt got
us out of their press. Cade was unstoppable all game and
Myles didn’t miss much from the outside.”
Glasgow’s defense hounded the Mustangs, taking away
their perimeter shots.
“We came out and manned them all game,” said
Yoakam. “We kept them away from the rim.”
Coach Yoakam felt that the Scotties peaked at the
right time.
“Yeah, we did peak at the right time,” he said. “We
struggled a little at the district tournament. We got
our confidence back and came out and played our best
basketball. These divisional wins don’t come easy. If we
could have had a shot at Fairview, it would have been a
close one also.”
Glasgow played without senior Toryn Richards, who
had injured his knee in the Poplar game Friday night.
“He played through the game,” said Yoakam. “We
looked at his knee Saturday morning and decided he
couldn’t play.”
The Scotties lost a close one to Poplar, 71-66.
Glasgow had taken a 53-52 lead early in the fourth.
Walker Burshia answered with his bucket, but Cade
Hudyma followed with a bucket. Kaniel Ricker made
two throws and Geordy Medicine Cloud nailed a pair
of three’s and Ricker added two more throws, giving the
Indians a 64-55 lead with 2:59 to play. Solorzano buried a
three to cut the deficit to 67-62 with 1:06 left.
The game was close throughout with the Indians
holding a 21-17 lead after the first period. Poplar led 37-
36 at the break and 50-49 after three frames. Babb had
drilled a buzzer-beating three.
“We had a pretty good game with Poplar,” said
Yoakam. “We played well. We shot over fifty percent. It
was a good back and forth battle. They got us at the end.”
Delray Lilley whipped in 29 points, including five
3-pointers, for the Indians, Burshia, Medicine Cloud, and
Ricker had 11 apiece, Quinn Sutherlanf six, and Cameron
Reum three.
Babb led the Scotties with 21 points on 9 of 17
field goals, Cade Hudyma followed with 20 on 9 of 12
shooting, Richards had 12, Yoakam six, Solorzano five,
and Connor Hudyma two.
Glasgow went 27 of 41 from the field, including 4 of
6 from long range.
“All of the guys stepped up. Toryn, especially,” said
Yoakam. “He gave us an extra boost on offense.”
The Scotties got the monkey off their back to win the
Saturday morning loser out game. In the past the Scotties
have had problems getting past the morning session.
This time the Scotties weren’t going to be denied as
they edged Chinook 61-59. Connor Hudyma missed a
pair of throws with five seconds to play. Chinook got the
rebound and made a pass down court, but Yoakam broke
up the pass, sealing the win for the Scotties.
“We were without Toryn. We were a little short on
guys. We played with five,” said Yoakam. “We brought
Noah Runner off the bench to help us. We played with
five guys in the games on Saturday.”
Glasgow had taken a 17-15 first quarter lead, and led
30-25 at the break. The game was tied at 44 after the third
period.
Babb tallied 26 points for the Scotties, Cade Hudyma
followed with 21, Yoakam had six, Connor Hudyma five,
and Solorzano three. The Scotties were 24 of 52 from the
field, including 5 of 16 from behind the arc.

Valley County local government is hiring a permanent, fulltime
administrative assistant for the County Commissioners. This job reports
to the Clerk and Recorder. Starting pay is $21.00 per hour and includes full
County benefits. This position provides administrative support to the County
Commissioners and the Clerk and Recorder as needed. It requires strong
administrative and customer service skills. The full job description and job

Plentywood (20-1) pulled away from North Country
(9-14) to get a 49-31 win in the first game. The Wildcats
went on a 12-0 run in the second quarter for a 22-10 lead.
They led 10-8 in the first and 38-22 after three.
Coy Bowman tied the game at 10 with a pair of
throws. North County was hurt when Blaine Downing
picked up his fourth foul with 5:21 to go in the first half.
The junior had gotten his third at the 6:30 mark.
The Wildcats also had a 21-2 run that started in the
third and continued in the fourth period.
Noah Murrey led the Wildcats with 11 points,
Carson Solberg had nine, Ayden Kaul eight, Nathan
Trupe seven, Ben Hagen six, Chance Klein four, Landen
Flickinger and Henry Kukowski two each.
Bowman scored nine points for the Mavericks,
Downing added eight, Kade Strommen seven, Jake five,
and Laytin Erickson two.
Scobey-Opheim (19-2) withstood a Froid-Lake
rally for a 53-45 win. Froid-Lake (12-10) had cut the
deficit to 39-32 on Landen Kelm’s bucket. Cooper
Axtman drilled a three-pointer for a 42-32 lead.
The Spartans led most of the game, 13-9, 23-17
and 37-30.
Braxton Wolfe led the Spartans with 17 points,
Bram Handran followed with 16, Axtman had 11, Kolten
Machart, Evan Tande, Breckyn Mayer, and Resse Tande

Mason Dethman led the Redhawks with 23 points.

Circle jumped out to an 18-4 lead and led 32-4
before Culbertson snapped its scoring drought. The
Cowboys finished the first half on a 4-0 run.
Circle went on to win the game 66-44.
Donovan Gibbs led the Wildcats with 17 points.
Xavier Nasner had 15 points, Kashus Ereaux seven, Jace
Curtiss and Conner Guldborg six each, Breckyn White
and Tyler Erickson two each.
Dawson Begum, Bridger Salvevold, and Plenny
Williams scored 10 points apiece for the Cowboys.
