Glasgow earns some hardware

They had their best tournament and brought home
some hardware. Glasgow played its best Northern B
Divisional Tournaments. The Scotties beat Malta to claim
the third place trophy. Glasgow was hoping Poplar would
beat Fairview in the championship game so the Scotties
could challenge. But the Warriors were playing their best
basketball and defeated the Indians.
It has been a long dry spell since Glasgow has
brought home a trophy from the divisional. It was 2014
when Glasgow won the Northern B title. The Scotties won
their first game at the State Class B Tournament, defeating
Jefferson 49-40. Glasgow then lost to Columbus, 54-37,
and Malta, 64-53.
Glasgow (13-12) was so close to playing a challenge
game on Monday night, but Fairview spoiled the plans.
The Warriors beat Poplar to claim the divisional title.
The Scotties needed Poplar to win as Glasgow had
played the Indians in a semifinal game.
Glasgow wrapped up its season with a nice win
over Malta. The Scotties had lost twice to the Mustangs
during the regular season. But this time the Scotties had
their eyes on a possible challenge game and a trip to
state.
Glasgow had lady luck on its side when Malta’s
Bohdi Brenden stepped to the foul line for a pair of
free throws. The junior is a good free throw shooter.
He made the first throw, but with five seconds to play
in the game the second one hit the rim and fell off.
Myles Yoakam grabbed the rebound and was fouled.

Plentywood (20-1) pulled away from North Country
(9-14) to get a 49-31 win in the first game. The Wildcats
went on a 12-0 run in the second quarter for a 22-10 lead.
They led 10-8 in the first and 38-22 after three.
Coy Bowman tied the game at 10 with a pair of
throws. North County was hurt when Blaine Downing
picked up his fourth foul with 5:21 to go in the first half.
The junior had gotten his third at the 6:30 mark.
The Wildcats also had a 21-2 run that started in the
third and continued in the fourth period.
Noah Murrey led the Wildcats with 11 points,
Carson Solberg had nine, Ayden Kaul eight, Nathan
Trupe seven, Ben Hagen six, Chance Klein four, Landen
Flickinger and Henry Kukowski two each.
Bowman scored nine points for the Mavericks,
Downing added eight, Kade Strommen seven, Jake five,
and Laytin Erickson two.
Scobey-Opheim (19-2) withstood a Froid-Lake
rally for a 53-45 win. Froid-Lake (12-10) had cut the
deficit to 39-32 on Landen Kelm’s bucket. Cooper
Axtman drilled a three-pointer for a 42-32 lead.
The Spartans led most of the game, 13-9, 23-17
and 37-30.
Braxton Wolfe led the Spartans with 17 points,
Bram Handran followed with 16, Axtman had 11, Kolten
Machart, Evan Tande, Breckyn Mayer, and Resse Tande
two each.
Mason Dethman led the Redhawks with 23 points.
Nate Stentoft and Kelm had 10 each, and Daniel Forizs
two.
Circle jumped out to an 18-4 lead and led 32-4
before Culbertson snapped its scoring drought. The
Cowboys finished the first half on a 4-0 run.
Circle went on to win the game 66-44.
Donovan Gibbs led the Wildcats with 17 points.
Xavier Nasner had 15 points, Kashus Ereaux seven, Jace
Curtiss and Conner Guldborg six each, Breckyn White
and Tyler Erickson two each.
Dawson Begum, Bridger Salvevold, and Plenny
Williams scored 10 points apiece for the Cowboys.
Nyreece Halverson had four, Carson Solum and Mark
Kirkaldie two each.
Both the boys’ and girls’ brackets were in
