Parish Grotto

Fr. Jose Valliparambil
had a vision. He is the
Pastor of St. Raphael
Catholic Church. Five
years ago, in 2018, he
asked Perry Shorten if
he could build a grotto
to honor Jesus’ mother,
Mary.
Perry said, “Yes,”
and the masonry project
located east of St. Raphael
Parish Center, was
begun. It was completed
by August 15th, 2023, the
Feast of the Assumption of
the Blessed Virgin Mary,
in time for dedication by
the Most Reverend Bishop
Michael Warfel.

Running on the course where the All-Class ?State
Cross Country meet will be held in October giving the
Scotties a chance to get their footing on the Rebecca
Farms Course.
Glasgow girls ran another good race, finishing
ninth with a 291. Bozeman on the Flathead Invitational
with a 67. There were 20 teams (12 Class AA, four Class
A and four Class B) and 149 runners.
Glasgow boys were 19th with a 634. Bozeman
made it a sweep with 46 points. There were 26 teams (12
AA, 8 A, 6 B) and 198 runners.
The Scotties had three Personal Best times. Jensina
Tweten ran a 25:43.10 for 129th place in the girls race.
James Seekins ran a 9:56.47 for 144th and Rowen Kloker
ran a 21:33.66 for 176th place.
Tanae Baker ran her best race this season. The
junior was five seconds out of first place. She ran
18:59.84, while Kylee Neil of Bozeman ran an 18:54.21
to win the race.
Emily See didn’t ha e her best race, the senior ran
a 20:02.65 for 11th place. Haleigh Huntsman was the
next Scottie to cross the finish line, running a 22:34.12
for 60th pace. Kheyerah Bilger ran a 23:28.30 for 89th.
Caylen Jankowski followed Tweten in .132nd pace wih a
time of 26:18.81, not too far behind was Mary Dykema
in 140th with a time of 29:11.16.
Kyler Holinde led the Glasgow boys. The junior ran
a 17:57.64 for 65th place. Nathan Neil of Bozeman won
the race, running an amazing 14:50.31.
The next Scottie to finish was KJ Ingram, running
a 19:45.64 for 136th place. Kyler Whitman followed
in 146th with a time of 19:50.66 and Ted See followed
Seekins in 147th, running a 20:01.63. Adam Mickelson
ran a 20:31.22 for 154th place.
The Glasgow junior varsity ran at Poplar Saturday
with the boys finishing sixth place with 120 points.
Poplar won the meet with 29 points.
Owen Thompson led the boy with a 19th place
finish, running a PR time of 21:20.18. Peyton Summers
of Wolf Point won the race with a time of 15:47.74.
Timothy Pearson also had a PR of 22:46.50 for
32nd, Jordan Cook ran a 23:32.58 for 39th, Gage Larsen
had a 25:04.01 for 47th, Drew Simensen ran a 25:27.71
for 48th, and Tristin Sillhan a PR of 28:35.73 for 54th.
Riley Evenson-Glasoe was the lone Scottie girl to run,
timed at 26:27.87 for 18th place.
The Scotties will be in Havre Saturday.

Perry was assisted in the moving and installation of the

statue by three essential team members: Tom Grant,
Dexter Monson and Harry Murphy.

creating the grotto as a place for meditation and prayer

How old are Glasgow Middle School and Glasgow
High School?
Glasgow High School and Glasgow Middle School
have both been serving the community for over a half
a century and the bones of both buildings are holding
up quite well, however, during a recent contracted
facility assessment the Glasgow School District received
alarming reports on the conditions of both roofs. It
was recommended that both roofs undergo extensive
renovations to prevent further deterioration, including
any partial or complete structural collapse.
–Glasgow High School is in its 55th school year. It
opened in August of 1969.
–Glasgow Middle School is in its 63rd school year. It
opened in August of 1961.

How many school-related events are currently
held annually on Scottie Field? Do we anticipate
more opportunities with an UPDATED facility?
Glasgow High School and Glasgow Middle School
use Scottie Field for many athletic events each school
year to give our kids an opportunity to compete in front
of a home crowd and to help stimulate the economy of
Glasgow and Valley County. Based on a 10-year average;
these are the school-related events currently being held
on Scottie Field:
Football– 11 to 14 Games Per Year
5 Varsity Regular Season Games, 1 Annual Red and
White Scrimmage, 4 Junior Varsity Games, 4 Middle
School Games (including the 3-school Jamboree), 1 or
2 Varsity Playoff Football Games; with potential for 4
playoff games in a given season.
Track & Field– 11 Meets Per Year
4 to 5 Regular Season HS Meets, 1 Regular Season MS
Meets, 2 to 4 HS/MS Postseason Meets, 1 GHS Stuco
Special Olympics Meet.
Yes! A new facility will allow us to keep the longest-
running Top 10 Meet in the state in our community Glasgow!
It will open up opportunities for further postseason dates
in Track & Field and allow us the ability to pursue a Class
C Football Pre-Season Showcase (like the one we host
for Basketball in December). We would also bid on any
potential neutral site 8 Man State Football Championship
Games through the MHSA. Upcoming… Day 7’s Tidbit
will highlight non-school related and other opportunities
that will be possible with an artificial surface at Scottie
Field.

What events/activities could be moved to Scottie
Field if an artificial surface is installed?
–Glasgow Recreation Department Activities!
Including 3rd-4th Grade Flag Football, 5th-6th Grade
Tackle Football, Youth Soccer Leagues for ALL ages of
Glasgow youth, and countless outdoor summer youth
programs.
–Youth Baseball/Softball Practices! The 8U 11U and
14U Glasgow Softball Association leagues, T-Ball, Cal
Ripken Minor League, Cal Ripken Major League, Babe
Ruth, and the Glasgow Reds Legion Program would
have a suitable place to practice when weather or field
conditions are less than suitable.
–HOPE Annual Event! (formerly Northeast Montana
Relay for Life). This long term event that used to be
held at Scottie Field was moved due to concerns over
field use and ultimately the event was never the same
after moving locations. Is a revival possible?
–GHS Physical Education Classes / Sports Cross-
Training! Our Grade’s 9-12 kids will see expanded
education opportunities outside of the gymnasium as
the game field would become usable in the fall and the
spring while school is in session.
–HS Football Team Practice! We would be able to
practice every day on our game field and eliminate the
costs associated with maintaining the grass practice
fields.
–Outdoor Entertainment Venue! Community Movie
Nights, Fundraisers, Dances, Concerts, Weddings are
possible.
–Community Bowl! Facility would be open 24/7-365
days a year for community use. Open gate policy on
Scottie Field will continue and be enhanced for the youth,
adult, and senior citizen population.
