The activity started with the orientation and preparation a day before the earth quake
drill. The teachers both in Elementary and Secondary were given instructions on the process of
the drill and instructed to relay those things in their respective classes. On February 17, 2010,
the siren alarmed at 9:00 in the morning. It was loud was loud enough that it was heard by
everybody, both in high school and elementary. The siren was alarmed for 1 minute. Then the
students performed the “duck, cover and hold” technique. The students duck under their chairs
and cover their heads.
The students waited for the siren to stop before they leave their classroom. The
students leave the area covering their heads to the safe area. The drill participants follow the
designated routes assigned to every class towards the evacuation area. They walk faster but
careful enough to avoid any accidents during the evacuation phase. It takes 1 minute for the
students to vacate the classroom to reach the designated evacuation site.
They stay in the evacuation area and no one moved to other areas or return to the
building without instruction, The evacuation area is big enough for the students; it is away from
trees and other things that may collapse. While on the safe area, head counts were conducted
to insure that no one was left in the classroom.
In general, the earthquake drill was successful with the support and full cooperation of
students and teachers.
