1.0 GENERAL
1.1 Summary
A. Scope of Specification
This specification describes the minimum requirements and basis for engineering,
design, fabrication and procurement of a complete pre-engineered Packaged (self-
contained) Air-cooled Water Chiller for HVAC service.
B. General Description
The equipment noise shall meet the criteria set forth in MQ-SP-M-4032 and MQ-SP-
H-4700..

Referenced publications within this specification shall be the latest revision unless otherwise specified.
The following publications are to be used as guides in determining test methods, rating, performance
requirements and limits, and installation requirements applying to the equipment.
Other recognized standards may be used provided it can be shown they meet or exceed the
requirements of the standards referenced below.
ARI 370 Sound Rating of Large Outdoor Refrigerating and Air-
Conditioning Equipment
ARI 550/590 Water Chilling Packages Using the Vapor Compression Cycle
ASTM B117 Standard Practice for Operating Salt Spray (Fog) Apparatus
BPVC Section VIII of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Codes, Unfired pressure
Vessels.
The following quality assurance items are in addition to the general quality assurance requirements of
specification MQ-SP-H-4701, and the contract documents.
Equipment shall be tested and certified to meet the following performance criteria:
A. Electrical components, devices, and accessories shall be certified for the intended
use.
B. Thermal Capacity Rating: Units shall be rated in accordance with ARI 550/590.
C. Sound Power Level: Meet ARI 370 requirements and the SPL shall not exceed the
sound levels specified in Section 1.1. C.
D. Units shall be factory run and tested before shipping
Equipment shall be tested and certified to meet the following construction criteria:
A. Weather Resistance: Meet ASTM B117 requirements.
B. The design and construction of refrigerant pressure vessels shall meet the
requirements and recommendation of ASME Section VIII of Boiler & Pressure
Vessel Codes, Unfired pressure Vessels.
C. The unit capacity shall be rated at the ambient temperature specified in MQ-SP-C-
2000, or higher temperature as required. All the components (such as bearing, wiring,
motor, all electrical accessories, etc.) shall be suitable to handle the operation at 50º
C, or higher ambient temperature if specified.
D. Safety for Public Use: ASHRAE 15 requirements.

4.0 SUBMITTALS
The Contractor providing the chiller, prior to procurement, shall submit for review and approval the
following system’s information in accordance with the submittals’ requirements prescribed in the
Contract/Purchase Order (PO) general conditions. Submittal information shall be in SI units.
Attachment 1 of this specification contains equipment schedule. The information listed in that
schedule shall be provided as minimum for review before preliminary acceptance of the equipment.
Product shop drawings shall include the following drawings and/or diagrams as a minimum:
A. Equipment weights and dimensional drawings
B. Equipment internal components layout and configuration

C. Required clearances for maintenance and operation, including tube pull space
requirements
D. Size and location of piping and wiring connections
E. Vibration isolation calculations and details
F. Installation illustrative and dimensional drawings
G. Field-installed options/accessories installation drawings
H. Wiring diagrams clearly indicating all grounding, power, control and signal wiring
and connections. Wiring diagrams shall differentiate between manufacturer installed
and customer installed wiring.
I. Electrical/controls enclosure components layout
For each type of air cooled water chiller furnished, installation, operation and maintenance
manuals shall be submitted including the following information as a minimum:
A. Unless otherwise specified, six bound copies of the installation, operation and
maintenance manuals shall be provided. Optionally, electronic copies of the manual
may be provided in a format acceptable to the owner.
B. Operation and maintenance instruction manual shall be factory standard printed
manual including all periodic/seasonal maintenance and checkup requirements for
dynamic and static components such as lubrication, coil cleaning and lube change
replacement.
C. Manual shall also include all operating parameters information such as operating
limits and detailed sequence of operation.
D. Repair and troubleshooting charts/hints and major components’ replacement
instructions shall also be included.
E. Product data & shop drawings shall also be bound along with the operating and
maintenance instruction manual to form Owner’s Manual for commissioning
purpose.
F. Factory-recommended spare parts list for inventory purpose with price for each part.
List shall be tabulated and include, for every part, the OEM’s name & model/part
number. Cross sectional views shall be provided showing locations of the spare parts.
G. Schematic and wiring diagrams shall also be included in the operating and
maintenance manuals.

A. In addition to the product shipping, storage and handling requirements of the project
specification MQ-SP-H-4701, deliver the system fully assembled and wired with
factory installed shipping restraints and weather protective coating.
B. Ship loose, field-installed, materials and/or accessories in factory approved packing.
C. Storage of the system and or loose materials shall comply with the manufacturer
written instructions to avoid damage to components, enclosures and finish.
D. Do not install damaged system or components; replace and/or repair as approved by
the authorizing field engineer.
E. The contractor shall be responsible for rectifying any damage resulted from improper
shipping preparation.
6.0 WARRANTY
6.1 General
A. The equipment described by this specification shall be quoted and sold in full
compliance with the Owner’s Terms and Conditions of Purchase.
B. The manufacturer shall guarantee the entire system to be free from defects in
material, design and/or workmanship. The warranty shall be for a period of twelve
(12) months commencing from the date the system was commissioned and accepted
by the Owner (MARAFIQ) for its beneficial use or for (18) months from the date of
receiving the equipment at the job site.
C. The manufacturer shall guarantee the refrigeration compressors for an additional
period of forty-eight (48) months starting from the expiration date of warranty period
for the entire unit.
7.0 PRODUCTS
7.1 General
B. The Chiller shall be furnished new and manufactured no earlier than 12 months from
the date the purchase order was signed and issued.
D. Chiller shall have microprocessor-based control system for both operation and safety.
E. The Chiller shall be capable to start and continuously run at ambient temperatures
range of 0° to 50° C without damage or malfunction.
F. The Chiller shall be capable to start with up to 35 C entering water temperature
without compressor overheating or tripping.

7.2 Casing
A. Unit casing shall be designed and fabricated for outdoor installation complete with
weather protection for components and controls.
B. Casing shall be single-wall, constructed of heavy gage galvanized steel sheets.
Factory coating and finish shall meet or exceed the 500-hour continuous salt-spray
exposure test in accordance with ASTM B117.
C. All fasteners supporting the permanent casing panels to the frame shall be made of
corrosion resistant alloy.
D. Control panel door shall be gasketed.
7.3 Frame
A. Unit supporting frame shall be fabricated from heavy duty formed and load bearing
galvanized steel members, welded and/or bolted to form rigid and rugged skeleton
for assembling the different system components.
B. Frame shall be provided with lifting lugs and anchoring holes to facilitate lifting,
rigging and anchoring of the equipment.
C. All rotating components shall be mounted on vibration isolation elements to
efficiently reduce the transmission of vibrations to the unit’s frame.
A. Access doors and panels shall be provided to access electrical/controls devices, fans,
motors, compressors, coolers and refrigeration specialties.
B. Access doors shall be made of heavy gage galvanized steel sheets and provided with
stiffening members to eliminate warping of panels.
C. All access doors and panels shall have neoprene gaskets at interior edges, and
flexible bonding strap or wire for suitable grounding link.
D. Hinges, locks and latches shall be fabricated of stainless steel.
7.5 Compressors
Compressors shall be either screw, scroll or reciprocating type. Compressor motors shall be
capable of continuous operation within 10% of the rated (name plate) voltage without
overheating or damage. All compressors’ components shall be located to have adequate
access space for service. Capacity control shall be provided and capable of reducing the
compressor’s capacity to 20% of the full load capacity, or as specified in the equipment
schedule.
A. Scroll Compressor
1. The scroll compressor shall be positive displacement, direct drive with
suction and discharge service valves, crankcase oil heater, and suction

A. Condenser fans shall be direct driven and shall be statically and dynamically
balanced, with inherent corrosion resistance. Air shall be discharged vertically
upward.
B. Fans shall be equipped with motors meeting the requirements of MQ-SP-E-6022.
C. Fans shall be rated for high ambient operation (50 C or higher). A separate motor
shall be provided for each fan.
D. Fans shall be protected by a coated steel-wire safety guard with the same casing
coating of the unit.
E. A rain shield shall be provided on the motor shaft to prevent water from damaging
the shaft seal.

F. A rain cap shall be provided on the fan hub to prevent rust from building on the hub-
connection.
7.11 Electrical
D. Chiller shall be provided with a unit mounted disconnect switch for power supply
connection.
7.12 Controls
A. Operating Controls
1. All unit controls shall be furnished, mounted, wired and completely installed
by the manufacturer.
2. Provide factory installed control power transformer that will allow supply
control circuit power from the main unit power supply.
3. Provide microprocessor-based controller for the entire unit operation and
safety.
4. Local control panel shall have control selector switch with
Local/OFF/Remote selection.
5. Provide diagnostic and operating status display with keypad and weather
protective door.
6. Provide starter with over-current protection for each compressor.
7. Provide contactor for each condenser fan.
8. Provide adequate labels for operating instruction and special conditions
9. Provide lead/lag circuit-selector function.
B. Safety Controls
1. The unit controller shall provide the unit with protection against the
following troubles. It shall also initiate a common trouble alarm and make it
available to a set of contacts for remote monitoring location.
2. Loss of refrigerant charge (each circuit)
3. High and low refrigerant pressures (each circuit)
4. Reversed rotation and loss of phase
5. Low chilled water temperatures
6. Ground current fault (each compressor or the entire unit)
7. Thermal and electrical overload (each compressor)
8. Low oil pressure (each compressor)
C. Alarms
Unit shall be provided with a normally open dry contact to provide a chiller common
alarm signal to the HVAC control panel.
Air cooled chiller electric motors and all other electrical and instrumentation equipment in hazardous
areas shall be suitable for installation in the hazardous area specified on the data sheet, certified for the
intended use, and shall be of spark resistant construction per AMCA 99.
9.0 COATINGS
Air cooled water chiller condenser coils shall be coated with Heresite P-413 pure phenolic
thermosetting resinous coating. Coating thickness shall be 0.051 mm DFT. Coil and surface
preparation and application of coating shall be in accordance with coating and coil manufacturer’s
written instructions.
10.1 General
A. Provide the applicable information listed in Attachment 1 for each air cooled water
chiller.
B. Outdoor units shall be rated at 50º C, or higher temperature as required. All
mechanical and electrical components (such as bearings, wiring, etc.) shall be able to
operate in the project environmental conditions.
11.1 General
A. Equipment and accessories shall be delivered with protective crating and coverings
as recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
B. Equipment and accessories shall be stored to prevent damage and protect them from
weather, dirt, fumes, water and construction debris.
C. Equipment and accessories shall be handled in accordance with manufacturers
written rigging and installation instructions for unloading, transporting and setting in
final location.
12.0 TESTING
In addition to testing specified above, all unit electrical devices shall be energized as components to
ensure operation integrity prior to the unit shipment. Replacement of nonfunctioning items shall be
conducted with all reasonable speed and the quality assurance engineer shall certify that all such
changes have in fact been undertaken.
13.0 TRAINING
Provide a minimum of five days of classroom and hands-on training. The training must enable the
participants to operate and maintain the equipment. Training must include the use of simulators that
will allow the participants to model any unit operating condition. The course shall include as a
minimum:
Air Cooled Water Chillers shall be tagged with a 40 mm x 125 mm x 1.5 mm 304 stainless steel plate
with engraved identification numbers (Owner’s Equipment Number, Manufacturer Name, Model No.,
Serial No., Electric Data, and P.O. Number.) permanently riveted to the frame in a conspicuous
location.
