A mist system shall be applied as one of the following:
Local application
This configuration is used to protect a specific hazard or object.
Zoned application
This type of system is configured to discharge mist from portions of a larger
system as required to control fire in a specific part of a compartment. It would
be considered, for example, in circumstances where the water demand for a
total compartment system, would be beyond the capability of the water supply.
The design of the mist system shall be complete with all necessary accessories for proper
operation.

for routine maintenance.
Water mist systems shall not be used for direct application to liquefied gases at cryogenic
temperatures (such as liquefied natural gas).
System design and installation shall reflect high quality professional work that properly
accounts for practical maintenance concerns and aesthetic concerns, as well as meets the
design requirements.
The system and its components shall be suitably designed to withstand ambient temperature
changes, vibration, humidity, impact, clogging and corrosion.
The piping system shall be sized in accordance with a hydraulic calculation technique to
ensure availability of flows and pressures required for correct performance of the system.
Each section or area served by a mist system shall be capable of being isolated by one water
supply valve only. The stop valve in each section shall be readily accessible, and its location
clearly and permanently indicated.
All overhead piping shall be well supported and fixed to prevent deflection and vibrations.
In all cases a detailed layout shall be made of the equipment and areas to be protected on
which the arrangement of the nozzles shall be shown.
Duration of the firewater supply shall meet the requirements of NFPA 750 and Project
Specifications.
