F. Pipe and Fitting Dimensions

The pipe and fittings dimension test, in accordance with ASTM D 3567, shall be performed on a
random basis on the laminates. This test shall determine the proper wall and liner thickness, and
the proper diameter of the pipe and fittings. If any of the dimensions are outside the allowable
tolerances, this shall be cause for rejection.

G. Resin Cup Gel Test

The pot life of the catalyzed resin should be monitored closely. A cup gel test as outlined below
should be performed daily. This test measures the pot life of the catalyzed resin.

1. Temperature of resin and the room shall be between 21°C - 27°C (70°F and
80°F).

2. Accurately measure 100 grams of resin into a wax free paper cup; add 0.5 grams
cobalt naphthenate to it with a spoon, and stir into resin for 2 minutes.

3. Allow spoon to drain into the resin and then mix with a laboratory propeller
mixer for 2 minutes.

4. Add 1 gram MEK peroxide with a spoon and stir into resin, simultaneously
starting a stopwatch. Stir vigorously for 1 minute and remove spoon.

5. Every minute stir for 10 seconds with a wooden tongue depressor. After stirring,
slowly withdraw the tongue depressor, flat side up, from the resin. As the
viscosity increases noticeably, stir slowly for 10 seconds every 1/2 minute, and
withdraw tongue depressor, flat side up.

6. When resin mass tends to adhere to the tongue depressor and rises with it as it is
withdrawn, stop the timer.

7. Report elapsed time as room temperature gel time.

8. Comparison of result to manufacturers’ standard will ensure proper resin cure

and good quality control of the finished product.

• Resin trade name
• Date of manufacture
• Thickness and pressure rating

2. Each component shall be marked with the information detailed above at 3

locations for straight pipe, and at 1 location for fittings.

3. Markings shall be permanent. Decals, labels, and other markings shall be sealed
into the exterior of the laminate with resin. Fabricated assemblies shall be
marked with line and piece mark number in addition to the above requirements.

2.6 Preparation For Shipment

The following covers the minimum requirements. The supplier shall submit proposed packaging and
shipping procedures for Buyer's review.

Proper packaging and dunnage arrangement is imperative for protection against shipping damage.
Conformance to the following practices serves to minimize product damage.

A. General

1. Pipe and fittings shall not come into contact with sharp edges. Damage can
occur if they are transported in a manner that provides only point or line
supports. Care shall be exercised in shipment packing and in dunnage
placement. Materials that are not secured shall be crated or boxed before
shipment.

2. Nesting of smaller diameter components inside larger diameter components is

not permitted. Piping may be bundled with Marafiq's prior approval. Unboxed
piping and spool assemblies shall be separated by wood chocks and supports.
Soft materials such as carpet and auto tire strips are acceptable as general
dunnage.

3. The use of chocks under and between the pipes is required to prevent damage to
pipe. Chocks shall be cut to the radius of the pipe and properly spaced along the
length of the pipe, along with the proper supports. On 6 m (20 foot) lengths as a

minimum they shall be placed in 2 locations, 1.5 m (5 feet) from each end of the
pipe. On 12 m (40 foot) lengths, there shall be 4 supports placed at 3 m (10 foot)
intervals beginning 1.5 m (5 feet) from 1 end of the pipe.

4. Tie-down straps shall be suitable for use with RTR/RPMP pipe and fittings.
Steel straps shall be padded and be wide enough to prevent damage. If nylon or
woven fabric straps are used, a ratchet tightening system shall be provided to
compensate for stretch. Loose banding materials shall be tightened immediately
to prevent damage. The banding shall be tight enough to prevent movement
without deformation of the pipe or fittings.

5. Boxed or crated items shall be braced or cushioned against shock, vibration, and
rough handling.

6. Piping items that are not stacked or boxed shall be palletized with proper
bracing and dunnage.

7. Flanged ends shall be protected with wooden blinds bolted to the flange and
shall have a diameter 50 mm (2 inches) larger than the outside diameter of the
plastic flange. The blinds shall be 10 mm (3/8 of an inch) minimum thickness
for DN 300 (12 inch) diameters and smaller, and 19 mm (3/4 of an inch)
thickness for DN 350 (14 inch) diameters and greater. A minimum of 2 bolts
shall be used to fasten the blinds to the flanges. Washers shall be used under all
nuts placed against the plastic flanges.

8. Care must be taken to prevent deflection in thin wall piping. Wooden plugs or
frames shall be securely fastened to the pipe to maintain the pipe roundness
during shipping.

9. If furnished, joint kits shall be packaged in accordance with the applicable Saudi
Arabian regulations.

10. Shipment of prefabricated assemblies by motor freight is recommended. Trucks
