reproducible copy of the drawings shall be submitted to Marafiq within 2 weeks of
the receipt of the review comments on the approval drawings.

1.5 Quality Control

A. The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of the work and shall develop and
propose programs and methods of construction and testing such as to achieve the
specified quality to the approval of Marafiq.

B. The Contractor shall develop a Quality Control Program including test and inspection
procedures that will ensure and verify the work performed meets the requirements of the
Contract Documents, including inspection, testing and documentation of the soil
improvement work. Quality Control Program shall be submitted to Marafiq for approval
prior to the start of the work.

C. The Contractor shall perform all work in compliance with applicable requirements of

Laboratory hired or subcontracted by the Contractor, who is specifically and uniquely
qualified in the sampling and testing methods specified.

E. Number and frequency of tests shall be assigned by Marafiq.

F. Marafiq shall have the right to make inspections and tests at any time.

G. The Contractor shall immediately notify Marafiq in writing of any situation detrimental to
the proper and timely completion of the work.

1.6 Health and Safety Considerations

Specification, MQ-SP-2302, Plain and Reinforced Concrete Specification.

B. Cement shall be stored so that all moisture is excluded.

2.2 Water

A. Water shall be clean, fresh, and free from injurious amounts of sewage, oil, alkali, salts,
or organic material.

2.3 Mineral Filler

2.4 Mix Design

A. Grout shall be composed of water, cement, and mineral filler.

2.5 Equipment

A. General Requirement

1. All drilling and grouting equipment used shall be of a type, capacity and mechanical
condition suitable for doing the work, and shall be approved by Marafiq. The power
and equipment and the layout thereof shall meet all applicable requirements of local
regulations and codes, both safety and otherwise.

B. Drilling Equipment

1. Standard drilling equipment of rotary type shall be used for drilling exploratory
holes. At the Contractor’s discretion, rotary or percussion type drills may be used for
drilling grouting holes.

C. Grouting Equipment

1. The grout plant shall be capable of supplying, mixing, stirring and pumping the
grout, to the satisfaction of Marafiq.

2. The plant shall have a minimum capacity of 6 L/min. of grout injected at a pressure
not greater than 0.7 kg/cm2.

3. The plant shall be maintained in a satisfactory operating condition at all times, and
any grout hole that is lost or damaged due to mechanical failure of equipment or
inadequacy of grout supply, shall be replaced by another hole, drilled by the
Contractor at his expense.

3.0 EXECUTION

3.1 Excavating and Sheeting

A. Prior to grouting operation, excavation shall be performed adjacent to the foundations and
perimeter sheeting shall be installed to extend 1 m below the footing from final grade.

3.2 Exploratory Holes

A. Exploratory holes shall be drilled prior to any grouting operation. Drilling shall be
performed with rotary equipment using coring type bits.

B. The number, location, direction and depth of holes shall be made at the Contractor’s
discretion that will enable him to define the extent of grouting more clearly.

3.3 Primary Holes

A. Primary holes shall be equally spaced at 1 m spacing. Spacing other than 1 m shall be
determined from information gained from exploratory holes. Bottom of primary holes
shall be in sound soil. Minimum diameter of holes shall be 35 mm at the bottom.

B. Primary holes around the perimeter of the grid shall be grouted first. The grout machine
shall be connected to a pipe, which shall have been sealed into each hole. A thin mixture
of neat cement grout mixed in the ratio of 1-part cement to 5-parts water, by volume, shall
be forced in under a pressure of 0.7 kg/cm2. When the hole continues to take this grout at
0.7 kg/cm2, the mixture shall be gradually thickened until refusal is reached.

C. Refusal in any section of the hole shall be considered to be reached when absorption does
not exceed a total of 10 L of a 1: 5 mix over a 10 minute period when pumped at
maximum pressure. The grout machine then shall be disconnected and moved to the next
hole on the periphery of the grid.

D. Each hole on the periphery shall be grouted the same as the first hole. After the periphery
holes have been grouted, all of the interior holes shall be grouted the same as the first
hole.

3.4 Secondary Holes

A. After all primary holes have been grouted; secondary holes shall be drilled to the same
depth as the primary holes if grout fails to overflow from surrounding holes. Split spacing
method shall be used for location of holes.

B. Secondary holes shall be grouted in the same manner as the primary holes.

C. The process shall be continued until the holes spacing becomes such that no appreciable
amount of grout can be injected at 0.7 kg/cm2 pressure, or grout appears at other holes or
installed overflow pipes.

3.5 Cleanup

A. All equipment and excess material shall be removed from the site after the completion of
the grouting.
