Lesson: Practice 3

Practice: Modify a design and solve a Static Stress Simulation to analyze results based on
design updates.

• Clone a simulation model.

• Create sketches and features.
• Use direct modeling tools.
• Solve a simulation study.

1. Continue with the file from Practice 2 and

ensure you are in the simulation workspace
and viewing the simulation results.

2. Toggle the results type to view Safety Factor,

Stress and Strain.

3. Finish the simulation results and navigate to
Simplify. Right-click on Simulation Model 1 and
clone the simulation model and simulation
study.

4. Create a new sketch on the front face of the

link and create 2 vertical lines from the lower
arc intersection points.

5. Extrude the center closed profile to the back of

the link with the join option.

6. Exit simplify and solve the new simulation
model and study.

7. View the safety factor of the new design.

8. View the stress distribution of the new design

and finish the results view.

9. Enter Simplify and clone the simulation model
again including the simulation study.

10. Select the inside faces of the design and use

Delete on the keyboard to remove then.

11. Inspect the design and finish simplify.

12. Solve the simulation study.

13. View the safety factor of the new design.

NOTE: The safety factor is above 15 so it is displayed

as 15.00.

14. View the stress distribution and think about how

the 3 variations of the model differ in terms of
the safety factor and stress distribution.

NOTE: The stress distribution of the solid link clearly

shows an area of low force directly in the middle
similar to the cut-away of the original design.
