6.1 SURVEYING
Setting out of the main grid lines shall be carried out by the Contractor.
The installation of marker pins shall be carried out from main grid lines
by the contractor in accordance with the pile location drawings.
Prior to boring, the pile position relative to the main grid lines shall be
checked.
Ground preparation
The platform elevation shall be decided on the basis of the pile cut
off level +1m and ground condition,
The ground shall be levelled and made firm for balance of the
equipment and support of working weight.

The piling rigs mounted with a crane and shall be set up accurately
on the marked piling position.
The piles shall be installed by using a specially developed rotary
system which ensures a minimum disturbance of original soil
conditions and negligible influence to piles already casted.

Preparation
Steel cage shall be preassembled in accordance with the detail
drawing of pile reinforcement.
The central location of the steel cage and the minimum cover shall
be ensured by placing the appropriate spacers and stiffeners on the
steel cage.
Damaged portion of steel cage by roller of bending machine which
made by iron shall be applied touch up paint which is certified by
project specification and repainted portion shall desiccate enough.
Installation
When the designed drilling depth is reached and fully graded at pile
base, the preassembled steel cage shall be installed down into the
hole with the crane.
When the drilling depth reaches the bearing layer, the pile base will
be graded and the cuttings, sediments and loose soil particles shall
be removed by the method the high-pressure air from air-
compressor is jetted through bottom of the screw while pulling out of
auger unit.
Steel casing
After the pile base is cleaned, the pre-assembled steel cage should
be immediately inserted into the steel casing by using the crane.
The required concrete cover of the installed steel cage should be
secured by the approved spacers.

To provide the required reaction load on the pile, long rigid steel
kentledge frame made up of I-beams and sufficient number of
concrete block will used.
The frame can be safely loaded for more than 750tons dead load.
Crane will be used for setting frame in place, loading of concrete
blocks and shifting them from one test location to the other.
Site Preparation
This includes trimming of test piles to the desired level if required,
including pouring of non-shrink grout to level the top of the test pile
and preparation of concrete / compacted marl pad to support the
concrete pedestal.
The clear distance between the pile and support concrete pedestal
will be minimum 2.5m or five times diameter of the pile whichever is
greater.
Equipment
Equipment to be used for testing are as follows:
a. Hydraulic jack system attached with hydraulic pump and
calibrated pressure gauge.
b. Load Cell
c. Rigid steel Kent Ledge Frame
d. Calibrated Dial Gauges with magnetic holders & reference beams
e. Concrete Blocks
Loading Procedure
Load on pile will be applied up to maximum of 200% of the pile
design load.
Each load increment will be maintained until the rate of settlement is
not greater than 50mm.
Report
Field test results recorded on Load test format and Load versus
Deflection Graph along with the test reports & conclusion will be
submitted.

Reaction load
To obtain the required reaction loads concrete blocks will be placed
on compacted ground.
For transferring reaction load on the concrete blocks, steel I sections
will be used as spacer if required between hydraulic jack and
concrete blocks.

Equipment
Equipment to be used for testing are as follows:
a. Hydraulic Jack attached with pump and calibrated digital pressure
gauge
b. Load Cell
c. Concrete Blocks for reaction load
d. Calibrated Dial Gauges of 0.01mm accuracy per division with
magnetic holder and reference beams
Test procedure
Pile shall be tested after attaining a required strength.
The test shall be performed, in general, according to ASTM D-3966
“Standard Test Method for Piles under Lateral Loads”.
Prior to the test, a pad will be installed adjacent to the test pile on the
excavated ground, which will serve as the base for reaction load
capable of providing the required lateral thrust without yielding.
The reaction load is in the form of concrete blocks each of 1.0m x
1.m x 2m size arranged in layers will be used.
The bearing plate will be fixed to the pile at the test level with high
strength non shrink grout.
The load cell and hydraulic jack will be placed horizontally in
between the test pile and the reaction load so that the ram of the
jack will move freely.
Lateral movement of the pile will be monitored using calibrated two
(3) dial gauges of 0.01mm accuracy supported on reference steel
beam and its needle resting on the pile in opposite side of the
location of the reaction loads.
The reference beam will be supported independently on firm/non-
movable ground away from the test pile.
Record
Field test results will be recorded on test record format enclosed.
Load versus Deflection Graph will be submitted along with the test
reports and conclusions.

Loading arrangement
To apply the required tension load on the pile, rigid steel reaction
frame will be placed over the concrete support blocks placed
sufficiently away the pile on the in-situ cast concrete pad /
compacted marl base.
Hydraulic jack system placed over the reaction frame will be used for
application of load on the pile by reaction through thick 100mm thick
anchor steel plate which is above the load cell and properly welded
to the extended pile reinforcement steel.
Load cell will be placed over one of the hydraulic jack.
Crane will be used for setting up the equipment.

Equipment
Equipment to be used for testing are as follows:
a. Hydraulic Jack system
b. Load Cell
c. Reaction Frame
d. Calibrated Dial Gauges with reference beams
e. Support Concrete Blocks
Test procedure
Pile shall be tested after a minimum period has elapsed since
installation to ensure that the fresh concrete of the pile has attained
the required strength.
The test shall be performed, in general, according to ASTM D-3689
“Quick test”.
Load on pile will be applied up to maximum of 200% of the pile
design load in increment of 10% of the pile design load thereafter in
increment of 5% of the pile design load.
Each load increment will be maintained for 10 minutes.
Maximum applied test load will be removed in four equal decrement
holding 10 minutes between each decrement.
Report
Field test results, recorded on load test format, summary of test
results and Load versus Deflection Graph will be submitted along
with the test reports and conclusions.
