INTRODUCTION

Gumamela is a shrub that is highly cultivated as an ornamental plant in the Philippines. It is

the local term used in the Philippines for Hibiscus, China Rose, and Shoeflower. This plant has a

scientific name known as Hibiscus rosasinensis. Usually, this ornamental plant grows from one

meter up to four meters high. Its flower may come in various colors similar to orange, white, pink,

yellow, red, purple, and other color combinations. Its leaves are glossy green, ovate, pointed, which

extends its length to about seven to twelve centimeter. Its flowers are solitary, axillary, and quite

huge which extends its length to about ten centimeters, and twelve centimeters in diameter. The

petals are commonly obovate, rounded tip, and imbricate. The stamens are in long and slender tube

form enclosing the entire style of the pistil and protruding out of the corolla. When we were kids,

we used to drink its sweet nectar and eat its petals and then we would gather its petals to make

bubbles. Gumamela has a lot of use, it can be used as medicine for some certain diseases or illness

and its flowers are often used to form bubbles so we could also make a dishwashing liquid out of it.

By this research study we will be studying the utilization and effectiveness of the plant gumamela

in the production of dishwashing liquid. Washing dishes is one of the major house chores our

parents are facing every day. One of hardest part of washing dishes are the tough stains and grease

that is all over the common kitchen tools we use in our everyday life. Dishwashing liquid is a great

help to minimize the time of removing those tough stains and grease on our kitchen tools and it

totally removes all the dirt of common kitchen tools. Imagine yourself washing the dishes without

using any dishwashing liquid, how will you easily remove those stains and grease? This study

shows how a simple organic material that can be easily found elsewhere can be turned into

something as useful as dishwashing liquid.

Reviewing related literature

This study relates to our topic because it also studies about making gumamela as an

Antibacterial Soap and a Medicinal Flower to prevent cancer . Gumamela is not a blossom of

beauty but the possible ingredient for good health

A study conducted by devil medical school foundation revealed that gumamela flower or

hibiscus Rosa sinensis is contains ingredients that may be used to prevent cancer by inhibiting

mutation of cancer cells in human body

Cancer is a result of genetic mutation when our bodies exposed to carcinogens cancer

causing substances a single abnormal cellular grow leading to multiple mutations to form tumors,

tumour cells eventually invade and destroy normal cells in the laboratory experiment modified ,

salmonella say very searchers tested the anti mutagenic properties of the ability to control

mutation of gumamela, The flower extract to the growth of mutant salmonella bacteria the

compared effects of mitomisin C standard mutagen positive control and mineral water as a

negative control.

Results showed that gumamela extract significantly decreased the growth mutation of

salmonella compared to mitomisin C add mineral water , in fact the study highlighted that even

with the presence of mutagen or agent that promotes imitation, gumamela extracts have

successfully halted the bacteria's growth in most of the trials conducted.

According to the study these effects may be attributed to the active ingredients in

gumamela such as flavonoid and proanthpcyanims The phytochemical components that act as

powerfulAnti oxidants and free radical scavengers proanthpcyanims Trap Hydroxyl lipid

peroxides another damaging free radicals and stimulate cells to produce the toxify enzymes

Meanwhile flab annoyed is one of the few radical scavengers that protect the body against fat

and water so lube free radicals

With these findings researchers claim that gumamela is a potential natural resource that

can prevent the development of cancer cell in human body the study was funded by the

Philippine council for help research and development of the Department of science and

technology or PC HRDD OSD through its regional research fund in region 11

widely cultivated Flowers in brilliant hues of red orangeOr purplish red with short lived but

continuing blooms

out that Hibiscus rosa-sinensis cannot be used as alternative medicine in treating of

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study may be very beneficial and useful to individuals who are financially incapable

of buying priced and branded dishwashing liquid because they can have their own homemade

dishwashing soap or liquid which is less costly since the gumamela Flowers and the other

materials needed in the production are very affordable

This study every searchers will determine the feasibility of gumamela flower extract as a

dishwashing liquid

this study will be the significance of the following

People who have gumamela plants at home - this study will help the people who have

gumamela plants in their yards in a way of making their own dishwashing liquid as a

replacement to the commercial one it can also be an additional income for them.

The researchers -this study will help them realize the benefits that gumamela can offer it

can make them appreciate the environment more and learn The value of being resourceful this

will also serve as their learning experience in which they can apply to their everyday lives.

be sellable to the Filipino market not only will they gain profit but they will also give access to

those who need the product.

Customer or buyers -this study will provide the buyer or customer a cheaper and healthy

dishwashing liquid it also helps lessen their expenses for it only requires gumamela Flowers

which can be found or even planted at home and is easy to reproduce.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

The study will produce a dishwashing liquid out of local gumamela flower as an

alternative from the conventional dishwashing liquid's and will focus on the distinction of

gumamela and conventional dishwashing liquid in terms of the appearance color texture it will

include twenty randomly selected responded the data gathering will be done mainly through a

self constructed questionnaire or rating sheet that will be handled out to the respondents the

scope of the study is limited only to the items included and asked in the questionnaires.

1. How long does the alternative dishwashing liquid last in terms of the time of

spoilage

2. How effective is the alternative dishwashing liquid in terms of removing grease

and stains in kitchen wares and tools

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research design :

This study utilized the quasi-experimental design to determine the effect of Hibiscus

rosa-sinensis (Gumamela) petal poultice on inflammation among the selected bayawan City

negros oriental: basis for information dissemination.

Research instrument:

a researcher made a Survey Questionnaire to determine if the Gumamela is safe and

Very Good to use as a Dishwashing liquid, a record sheet is used to tally the scores of the

participants .

Research environment:

This study was conducted particularly on the areas of Bayawan City at different

Barangays.

Research respondents:

This study involved 10 teen agers , ages 18-21 that mostky wash the dishes in their

households,, These respondents were selected through purposive sampling method from the

predetermined population of the same age group and were qualified based on the pre-set

inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Research Procedures:

 Before the actual conduct of the study, an approval was obtained from the

Chairmans of each barangay .

 A house-to-house visit was done to the 10 respondents.

 a Permission letter was given to each households before the survey.

 An all inclusive description regarding the nature and mechanics of the

study was provided to each respondent

Definition of terms :

Proanthocyanidins: are a class of polyphenols found in a variety of plants such as

blueberry. Chemically, they are oligomeric flavonoids. 

Antibacterial :means it can kill bacteria or slow their growth.

Pathogen : a bacterium, virus, or other microorganism that can cause disease.

Staphylococcus : is a genus of Gram-positive bacteria in the family Staphylococcaceae

from the order Bacillales. Under the microscope, they appear spherical (cocci), and form in

grape-like clusters.

Dissemination: the action or fact of spreading something, especially information, widely.
