Narration (JL): Just close your eyes for a moment and utter the term
research to yourself. What sorts of concepts does this word conjure up for
you? Do you envision a person thinking all day long? About he is being
curious why and how life runs? Or maybe she is being a detective to the
things she encounters and suddenly she thought of researching it?
In the quest of life, we cannot deny the point that we all encounter research
in our daily lives. The results of research on various topics are presented to
us in the design of newspaper articles, books, reports, and television
programs. Research is defined as an activity of any systematic or scientific
inquiry that means to seek answers to questions that aim to improve the
quality of life.

Filmae: (video clip na wala pa giopen tapos iopen ang imong laptop.
then video clip na gasturya ani (side view) (kusga ang tingog nya pwede hilom

Filmae: Have you ever conceived of how will you fulfill research? Well, let me
inform you about something. (butngig hand gestures aron ang pagkaartista
makita HAHAHAHAH)
(then kani kay, video clip na landscape na then ga sturya ka.)
Filmae: In research, you can pick a topic that grips your attention or
something that is boggling in your mind right now. Eventually, if you believe
that topic will enhance your stand, you can proceed in making the research
title. The research title summarizes the main idea or ideas of your study.
Here is an important note, a good title contains the fewest possible words
needed to adequately define the content and/or purpose of your research
paper. You can obtain your research title catchy but not that wordy.

II. GROUP 2
(FORMAL ATTIRE)
Lloyd: A delightful day, Mr. Colina and to all the listeners to this video. We
are the second group hailing from STEM 12.1. Before we progress to our
presentation proper, allow us to introduce ourselves. I am John Lloyd F.
Baroro.
JP: I am Noel B. Pabillano Jr.
Vivien: I am Vivien Blaise J. Bajardo.
Filmae: I am Filmae Jane S. Barrera.
Glaizel: I am Glaizel M. Ligutom.
Jerlyn: and I am Jerlyn I. Pada.
Lloyd: To formally begin with our presentation, here is Miss Bajardo to share
with you, by ranking, the research title we favor to study.
Vivien: As shown in the screen, by our preferences, it shows that “MAÑANA
HABIT, A WELL-KNOWN FILIPINO TRAIT: INFLUENCES OF
PROCRASTINATION ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE” is the
leading research title we prefer, followed by the SAY “OUT OF PLACE” NO
MORE, WHY?; SENSE OF BELONGING TO ADOLESCENT PEER GROUPS
and lastly is the EYEGLASSES OR HIGH GRADES? OVEREXPOSURE TO
GADGETS AND ITS CONSEQUENCE TO STUDENTS’ WELL-BEING. We
derived these preferences by communicating on our group chat what research
title we want to study. We based the ranking on our different preferences and
arrived at that order after tallying our choices.
Glaizel: To proceed to the next juncture, let us first take an overview of why
these research titles have been chosen by the second group. Generally, in
research, it is to know more of an existing problem, and attached with it is to
provide a response by investigating. Out of nowhere, the members of the
second group arrived at the same interests and what topics got their
attention.
JP: In the mañana habit study, the researchers came across and still,
currently experience and also witness this kind of Filipino trait to fellow
students. In the peer group study, the researchers have also undergone in
choosing where they feel they have commonalities with each other. Lastly,
about the gadgets, since researchers are studying online, they are flashed
through their iPads, cellphone, and computers.
Lloyd: Generally, we selected these three research title considering the
respondents and how we will obtain data from our study. Our target
respondents are Grade 12 students originating from our place. For example, I
and Ms Barrera are from Dumaguete, Mr. Pabillano is from Siaton, Mr.
Bajardo is from Bayawan, Ms. Ligutom is from Siquijor and Ms. Pada is from
Cebu. In those respective places, we will get data from students residing in
the mentioned places and will not only focus on students from FPA. But the
question is how? As the advancements of technology continue to rise, the
survey can be conducted online. With this current pandemic, students are
not allowed to perform a manual survey. But this will not be an obstacle for
the research not to gather data, hence the researchers will use an online
survey; specifically Google Forms as an instrument for data gathering.
Jerlyn: Research Title Defense. Research Title Number 3, EYEGLASSES OR
HIGH GRADES? OVEREXPOSURE TO GADGETS AND ITS CONSEQUENCE
TO STUDENTS’ WELL-BEING. Due to the demand for the online class, your
gadget will be your best friend as of the time. Because of the pandemic, it is
viewed that learning through gadgets is considered to be the safest option to
study amidst the pandemic. The pros of gadgets in the classroom are
tremendous. Their primary purpose is to intensify the learning experience for
both students and teachers through the use of computers and other
electronic devices especially nowadays, everyone is embracing the new
normal of education.
Filmae: But on the switching side, the excessive use of gadgets such as
mobile phones, tablets, and computer desktops can create physical and
mental damage to students. According to a study, a student will likely to
become overweight and develop seizure and vision problems when they spend
too much time using gadgets.
Filmae: First Question. What are the reasons why you chose that topic?
Because of the emergence of technology and being in the situation we are in
today, it is inevitable to be exposed to gadgets. Gadgets like phones, tablets, and
laptops are radiation transmitters, due to this, students then resort to wearing
anti-radiation glasses to safeguard their eyes from the negative impacts they may
experience. The researchers aim to discover the impact this may cause on the
well-being of the student to assess whether or not wearing eyeglasses affects the
students’ academic performance.
Jerlyn: Second Question. How will the society benefit from your study?
The researchers believe that with this study, society will be aware of the
impacts of overexposure to gadgets and the significant relationship it has to
the students’ academic performance. Society may use this study as a basis
for implementing programs that can help improve how individuals manage
their time in using their gadgets. Along with that, this study will provide
information for future researchers.
Filmae: Third Question. Is doing your recommendation feasible in terms of
cost and implementation?
Yes. The researchers believe that this study is achievable and attainable in terms
of cost and implementation.

JP: Research Title Number 2, SAY “OUT OF PLACE” NO MORE, WHY?;

SENSE OF BELONGING TO ADOLESCENT PEER GROUPS.
All good relationships are grounded in friendship. All good friendships are the
ones where individuals have learned to be honest without being hostile, to be
caring without crowding, and to be available at the most needing points in
our lives. Your position in a peer group will be determined by your choice of
one of the following worldviews.
Glaizel: Although none of them may be perfectly aligned with your aspects,
you select the one that most closely harmonizes you. Selecting a worldview,
here, is only the beginning mark in the process of establishing friendships.
Once the initial groupings are formed, it will be easy to evolve and grow
friendships with anyone in the groups; especially during social events. But
why do people desire to be in a group? Does it benefit themselves?
Glaizel: For the Question Number 1. What are the reasons why you chose
that topic?
The researchers deem that this topic is relevant to adolescents who are still
trying to figure out how they interact with the people around them as they
prepare to be adults. Being in this stage, adolescents feel the need for a sense of
belongingness. The researchers chose this research topic to validate the reasons
behind and how a sense of belongingness affects an individual.

JP: For the Question Number 2. How will the society benefit from your study?
The information gathered from this study can serve as a stepping stone to
minimize the possible effects and consequences of being or being not in a
friendship group. Along with this is the information on the effectiveness of
belonging to a group to the individual’s behavior this study will bring to the
future researchers.

Glaizel: For the Question Number 3. Is doing your recommendation feasible in

terms of cost and implementation?
Yes. The recommendation is feasible enough and achievable in terms of cost and
implementation.

Lloyd: Now let us move forward with our most preferred research title which is
MAÑANA HABIT, A WELL-KNOWN FILIPINO TRAIT: INFLUENCES OF
PROCRASTINATION ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE.

Filipinos adore saying “mamaya na, gagawin ko rin yan”. Everyone understands
that procrastination is a tendency of someone whenever he/she doesn’t feel to
make his/her works earlier than the date of the deadline. Procrastination is very
alarming since this practice might be brought by someone until their collegiate
days, or even in their work mannerisms, which is very challenging for them. This
eventually becomes a habit and became a culture Filipinos might find as a
normal condition. Procrastination, however, is the same way as the Filipino habit
called “Maniana (Mañana) or ‘Mamaya Na’ Habit.”

Vivien: This habit of Filipinos is a negative attitude wherein people tend to say
“Mamaya Na” in the things they see difficult to be done, or things that may
influence the time they took in the other things they prioritize first.
Procrastination brings diverse negative effects to the students when they practice
it doing it. As stated above, it is a difficult thing for someone when he is into
procrastination. Also, they always seek the things that are more interesting to
them and where they’re fond of than those that would make them more
productive. But why do they keep educating others while reversely doing this
toxic trait? How ironic.

Vivien: Number 1 Question. What are the reasons why you chose that topic?
The Mañana habit or “mamaya na” is a Filipino trait synonymous with
procrastination which may refer to different things (Mejia, 2017). The researchers
chose this topic because it affects the scholastic growth and development of the
learners, aside from that, it is relevant and relatable to the researchers
themselves. It is known that the students nowadays get used to procrastination
which results in poor time management. With that, the researchers aim to
provide pieces of evidence that may establish the relationship between
procrastination and the academic performance of students.
Lloyd: Next question we have, how will the society benefit from your study?
This study focuses on the Mañana habit or the habit of procrastination that’s not
only limited to the student respondents but the society as a whole. Through the
data gathered and analyzed, the researchers can provide adequate information to
raise awareness regarding the topic. In addition to this is the information this
study may provide to future researchers who are going to tackle the same topic.

Vivien: Lastly, Is doing your recommendation feasible in terms of cost and

implementation?
Yes. The researchers believe that little to no money is needed for the study to be
done, thus making the recommendation achievable and attainable in terms of
cost and implementation.

Lloyd: This brings us, the second group to the end of our presentation. To
summarize our main points, the research title we come up with is third,
EYEGLASSES OR HIGH GRADES? OVEREXPOSURE TO GADGETS AND ITS
CONSEQUENCE TO STUDENTS’ WELL-BEING, second is, SAY “OUT OF PLACE”
NO MORE, WHY?; SENSE OF BELONGING TO ADOLESCENT PEER GROUPS
and our most preferred research title is, MAÑANA HABIT, A WELL-KNOWN
FILIPINO TRAIT: INFLUENCES OF PROCRASTINATION ON STUDENTS’
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE”.

Vivien: We analyzed, as a group, in deciding these research titles by our future,

target respondents which are the Grade 12 students living the same place the
researchers live. Through an online survey; specifically, Google Forms will be our
way to achieve data gathering. Overall, researchers believe, in this way, it is
convenient and also a headstart to arrive at the peak of success. After all, the
researchers carry the high hopes that in this study, they can make a difference
in their society, even in their country and around the world.

Filmae: We, the second group genuinely appreciate your attention today.

JP: Also, we would like to acknowledge our instructor, Mr. Colina, for guiding us
for this presentation.

Glaizel: We, the researchers would love to end this presentation by leaving a
quote. “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” –

Jerlyn: “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”
