This document summarizes the calculations to check the capacity of a tie connection under an axial load of 950kN. It was found that:
1. The capacity of the equal angles (EA) connection and bolts were sufficient to resist the load.
2. The initial gusset plate of 150x12mm failed the check.
3. An iterative process tested different plate sizes, finding that a 200x25mm plate passed the check and provided sufficient capacity.

However, though 𝛷𝑉𝑓 = 2 ∗ 92.6 ∗ 8 = 1481𝑘𝑁 > 𝑁 ∗ = the iterative method of trail and error by 950𝑘𝑁 running tests of different plate size, we have OK! managed to obtain a new gusset plate size of 200*25 – plate. Hence, the tie EA connections of the plate as well as the bolt checks out.
