PRACTICE TEST 5

Task 1:

The viual reveal the information regarding the quantities of employment opportunitis
opportunities related to tourism, namely restaurants, hotels, sport and leisure, travel and
tours sector in an unspecified UK city over the 20-year course from 1989 to 2009.

The initial impression from the graph is that jobs inmost people were employed in the field
of restaurant and hotel areas peaked the highest point during 20 years, whereas those in
other fields remained lower over the research period.

It is clear that in 1989, the number of jobs in restaurants stood at the highest starting point
of about 1100. This figure saw a steady growth and reached a peak of over 1600 in 2004.
However, in 2009, there were just under, followed by a mild drop to 1400 workers. Hotels
kept the second largest number of occupations during the entire period. YetHowever, for
the following 5 years from 1989, 1400 people worked in this area, which overtook the
leading position previously held by restaurants. After that, there was a sharp drop to just
over 1000 in 2009.

As for sport and leisure, the jobs related to them fluctuated strongly, with the figure
standing at around 900 employers in 1989, decreasinged to over 600 of those in 1994 and
then rose rising dramatically by about 400 of them in 1999. Nevertheless, this was the same
pattern with hotels, at approximately 700 workers. The number of jobs in travel and tour
also witnessed the same trend as that in hotels as it reached a peak of roughly 1050 in 1994
before declining considerably to over 400.

Task 2:

It is true that these days, many high school graduates are likely to take a gap year so as to
work or take a trip before enrolling for following higher education. I side with the view that
the benefits it brings are more significant although it also has some drawbacks.

On the one hand, we can not disclaim refute the fact that taking a year breakgap year can
adversely affect individuals’ further study. The first reason is that students who decide to
start a job can lose their will to continue their studies. This is because when they already
have a job, they do not feel the urge to enroll for in university courses due to the stable
income. Moreover, they feel depressed when it takes a long period of time for revising
people who take gap years may end up being unable to catch up with their peers because of
the loss of academic knowledge. Besides, gap-year takers can waste a lot of time and
money. While their peers are studying at university, they have to review and wait for the
examination in the next year.

However, taking a year off can have some possitive effects. First of all, young people will
gain practical experience if they spend a year working. This is a great opportunities
opportunity for the youth to broaden new skills like teamwork, dealing with challenging
problems, or soft skills like communication skill, or management skill. In addition, living
independently and encountering difficulties on their own can help them in growing up. As a
result, they may be mentally mature and financially prepared have maturity and autonomy
to handle the complexity in both social and academic lives.

In the case when high school leavers who decide to travel for a gap year, this is also a golden
occasion chance for them to open their mind. Traveling helps them to understand cultural
diversity and gain practical knowledge about everything around them. Furthermore, this is a
great chance to relax before studying at university. Finally, taking a year off may give
individuals some time to consider making important decisions on the university goals and
future occupations.

In conclusion, i completely agree with the concept of taking a gap year. High school
graduates should take one year off in order to consider carefully about the appropriate
major for themselves as well as experience the real world.
