Task 1 (60’)

The chart illustrates the ownership of cars in Britain between 1975 and 2005. Overall, while there was
an upward trend in owning more than several cars, the figures of having only one or no car followed the
opposite direction throughout the whole time frame. In addition, there were always fewer individuals
owning more than two cars than those who had only one or no car.

As can be seen from the graph, from 1975 to 1985, there was a slight decrease in the proportion of car
ownership with just one or no car, which was 7 percent and 5 percent respectively. 20 years later, while
one car ownership was preferred with the an increase of 3 percent, the tendency of no car ownership
experienced a sharp decline of 6 percent. Over the 30-year period, the rate of people possessing more
than two cars rose dramatically to 17 percent. Similarly, there was a growth in the figures of no car
ownership from 3 percent to 7 percent.

It is noticeable that even when the rates of ownership of more than 2 cars in Britain reached the peak in
2005, it was still lower than those of one or no car ownership. In fact, Aat the end of the given time
frame, the proportion of having 3 or more cars was 7 percent and that of 2 cars was 17 percent.
Meanwhile, the percentages of no and one car ownership were 18 percent and 40 percent respectively.

Task 2 (60’)

In today’s world where there is a growing trend of consuming more and more exotic food because it can
only be grown in some specific places, people have a tendency to ignore local one. From my own
perspective, in addition to regional food, individuals should have more various kinds of food from other
areas.

On the one hand, eating food produced in different regions may offer some benefits. Adding more and
more exotic food types to one’s diet develops the sophistication of food consumption. This enables
people to get a wide range of necessary nutrients which cannot be found in local food. For example,
strawberries, which contain a huge supplement of vitamins, can only be grown in cold weather. Thanks
to the export of this fruit, humans living in scorching tropical climate have the opportunity to supply
themselves with a great source of vitamins.

On the other hand, consuming too much foreign food may bring certain adverse effects. This may do
harm to the regional economy. This is because the export of exotic products leads to a harsh food
competition between local areas and others. For example, beef in Vietnam is not widely used in
restaurants owing to the fact that people prefer other countries’ beef thanks to their reputation. Such
an inclination toward foreign food might bring in its wake the deterioration of local
husbandry.Consequently, Vietnamese agriculture is on the verge of disappearance, and farmers are
quitting their jobs in search of other ones.

In conclusion, it is undeniable that there is an increasing number of people consuming exported food.
While there are some drawbacks of this trend, the advantages are taken to sufficiently provide good
living condition to each person.
