The table below shows the percentage of the population who rode bicycles in one town by
age group in 2012. (practice test 14)

The given table illustrates the proportion of cyclists in an unspecified town from 5 different age
brackets in the year 2012.

Overall, it can be seen that cycling was more popular among females than males in the surveyed
year, with the largest discrepancy falling into the 10-19 bracket. Another striking feature is that
for both genders, people aged 0-9 favoured riding bikes most, and age is a clear predictor for
the increase in the percentages of cyclists, which the exception of the 60+ which bucked this
trend.

Numbering above half of the total population in the town, females and males from 0-9 years old
respectively accounted for 52.5% and 51.2% in terms of cycling activities. For people falling
into the 10-19 age group, the figures were 43.6% for girls and 25.1% for their male
counterparts. Being 8% higher than male’s figure, that of the other sex occupied 18.2% of the
20-39 age group.

Regarding the 40-59 year-olds, 9.3% of men took part in cycling activities while 13.7% of
women used the same means of transport. The remaining age group had 14.6% of its male
population travelling by bike, which was 5.2% lower than the proportion of the woman cohort.
