Content/Topic
How light acts as a wave and a particle?
Content Standard/Performance Standard
The learners explain the understanding on how lights act as a wave and a particle.
Learning Competencies/ Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, 85% of the learners must be able to:
1. describe the propagation of light,
2. differentiate the wave model of light and particle model of light and
3. explain the photon theory of light.

D. Teaching Strategy
Discovery Learning- The teacher will let the learners discover the concept of
the different models of light.
Revolving circles- The teacher will let the learners discuss and brainstorm the
concept of the models of light and they will choose one resource speaker to
discuss with the other groups about the models they have discussed.
Discussion Bingo -the teacher will let the learners sharpen their understanding
the different models of light.
Advance Organizer- the teacher uses graphic organizers to summarize and
differentiate the different models of light.
E. Key concepts
Corpuscular (or particle) theory of light by Isaac Newton
-stated that light consisted of particles that travelled in straight lines.
Wave theory of light by Christian Huygens
- Huygens argued that if light were made of particles, when light beams crossed, the particles
would collide and cancel each other. He proposed that light was a wave.
Electromagnetic theory of light by James Clerk Maxwell
-combined electricity, magnetism,and light.
Quantum theory of light
-combines the two major theories of light, suggesting that light does not always behave as a
particle and light does not always behave as a wave.
F. Process skills:
- Comprehend
- Differentiate
- Explain
- Apply
G. Values Integrations
The learners will realize the importance of light and
The learners will gain basic knowledge in understanding the concept of light.
Learning Activities/ Procedure
Preliminary Activities
Recalling
Motivation
After 5 minutes.
Presentation of Objectives
Lesson Proper
“So based on our minute quiz relay a while
ago, what do you think our lesson for this
evening? Anyone?”
“I think Sir, it is something related to how
“Yes, Andrie” lights behaves and what are the properties
of light.”
“Very well said, Andrie.”
“Our lesson for today explains more on the
propagation of light and how it behaves in
a given medium, whether the lights acts as
a wave or a particle. I hope you read and
research in advance about this dual nature Students listen attentively.
of lights.”
After 30 minutes.
After 4 minutes.
“Time is up. Everybody pass your paper to Students pass their paper to the front.
the front.”
Synthesis/Realization
“Anyone from the class, who can give the
summary and realization about our topic
this evening?”
“Yes, France.” “I have learned that during our discussion
bingo, that the light behaves in different
ways at some point it could be act as a
wave and some point it act as a particle but
over all, it opens up my understanding that
light is not just shining our lives but light
is a concept that needs to study further for
us to live brightly.”
“Very good, France”
Enrichment Activity
One whole short bond paper. Minimum of
225 words.
What is Photon theory of light and explain
how this theory accounts for the atomic
spectra does.
