1. Objective:
This work procedure narrates the guidelines for carrying out Construction of Water Tank.
1. Applicability :
2. Reference Document:
3. A-Equipment:
Excavator, Dumper, Grader, Power Roller/ Soil Compacter, Diesel Operator/Electrical operated
dewatering pump, Mixer Machine, Batching plant/Volumetric/Weigh Batcher, Transit Mixers,
Concrete Pump, and Concrete Vibrator with Needle (40 dia & 60 dia).
3. B-Instrument:
Raw Material shall meet as per IS Criteria & T.O.S or otherwise specified. All Test Records
shall be recorded in hard copy with consultants.
5. Responsibility:
6.
A. Surveying :
Construct local/temporary benchmark, transverse pillars, grid pillars, grid lines and transfer
level from the existing approved reference pillars.
Check the existing benchmark as well as Co-ordinates with respect to Permanent BM as
marked/fixed by Client before starting the Project work.
Take ground spot levels (N.G.L) in a grid pattern of 10.0 m intervals and prepare the field
book of spot levels for Construction of Water Tank. For this purpose before taking levels,
vegetation & other debris shall be removed from the ground.
Site Clearance :
Area for construction shall be cleared of all materials including bushes, trees,
vegetation, obstructions, and rubbish. Permission of CLIENT Engineer shall be obtaining
before uprooting/removing any tree.
Excavation:
Check the boundaries of all excavation area distinctively on the ground for safety purpose.
Excavation shall be started from top and proceeded to downward.
After Excavation, the surface shall be rolled by 8-10 T capacity power rollers or Soil
Compactor. The sub-base thus prepared shall be lightly sprinkled with water if necessary &
rolled again by 8-10 capacity of power roller.
The Size & depth shall verify by checking levels after final compaction of the surface and
recorded in hard copy.
If Excavation doesn’t reach the required depth, re-excavation shall be made. And if it is
more than required the same will be filled by lean concrete of proportion 1:5:10.
After verifying depth & visual Compaction, Modified Proctor density tests MDD in gm/cc &
OMC in % carried out by contractors by taking Core-cutting samples at excavated surface to
know the % compaction. All records of the test results shall be maintained in hard copy with
consultants.
Carting of the excavated earth shall be done only at nearby plot area as shown by Client and
same shall not be deposited with in 1.5M from the top edge of excavation.
Yellow Soil Borrow area samples to be approved first so as to meet the characteristic of
yellow soil.
Hydro-test shall be checked before filling.
Filling work can be start with the permission of Engineer in charge only
Filling work shall be laid in layers with proper compaction by soil compacter.
The moisture shall be checked by Moisture Meter at site before filling and the work shall
proceed if it comes in permissible limit.
For compaction, Modified Proctor density tests MDD in gm/cc & OMC in % carried out by
contractors by taking Core-cutting samples or Sand Replacement method for each layer to
know the % compaction.
Minimum 95% compaction required for yellow soil. All records of the test results shall me
maintained in hard copy with consultants.
The same procedure shall be follow for each layer to get 95% of compaction.
The Each layer thus prepared shall be lightly sprinkled with water, if necessary, & compacted
with soil compacter.
Reinforcement:
Formwork
Quality of shuttering materials (ply, battens, props, spans, nails etc) shall be as per TOS and
Indian Standard.
Shuttering shall be well planned & designed as such that it can resist load of structure & shall
not deform underweight & pressure.
Shuttering should be capable to resist lateral, vibration loads, self weight.
Supports of shuttering should be rested on the hard surface & fixed properly.
Centring, leveling & lining should be checked.
Shuttering oil should be approved before applying.
Inserts, pockets, conduits, puddle flanges etc. shall be confirmed/checked as per drawing as
fixed as such that they may not deformed.
MS Props should be used for supports & cross Bracings in place of Wooden Bamboos.
Shuttering shall be made watertight to avoid the wastage of cement slurry.
Re-used Shuttering should be properly clean, oiled and properly stacked.
R.C.C Work
Calibration of the Batching Plant/ Volumetric/Weigh batcher shall be done & the certificate
for the same shall be submitted
Methodology for the overall procedure shall be approved first before execution.
The steel bending shall be verified as per certified B.B.S only.
Clear cover to reinforcement shall be as per drg.
Water Stopper bar shall be provided at construction joint in walls as mentioned in drawing
and the same shall be approved before execution. Test result copy shall be recorded.
Water Stopper bar shall be in lined & leveled.
Grade of Concrete shall be confirmed before execution.
Water Proofing compound & admixture shall be approved before execution and ensure the
consumption as mentioned in TOS.
The chemicals shall be used before expiry date.
Raw material required should be sufficient for the respective work.
Batching plant/mixer machine/transit mixer/concrete pump/vibrators should be in good
condition. And standby equipment shall be arranged.
Manpower shall required be sufficient, if required in mass concreting, manpower shall be
arranged to work in shifts.
Set of cube moulds, slump cone shall be arranged.
After above all checks, Pour-card shall be signed
During concrete work, Slump test shall be check at every batch to know workability of
concrete. Water-cement Ratio shall be maintained. Slump/Cube Register shall be maintained.
During Concrete work, surface Vibrator & needle vibrator shall be used for compaction.
Levels of top of concrete shall be marked as per drg.
Post checking shall require after completion of work to avoid the discrepancy.
Cube test shall be checked at regular intervals directed.
Curing shall be done by Gunney bags.
Safety plan:
Inspection Records :
All records related to existing benchmarks as well as derived benchmarks established in Plot
area as per Project drawings shall be duly verified by Consultant-IBIC and the same shall be
maintained in the register.
All records of spot levels shall be approved by IBIC and the same shall be maintained in the
register and it shall be transferred on a drawing.
