3 – DAY DIVISION ONLINE TRAINING-WORKSHOP ON PEDAGOGICAL

RETOOLING IN MATHEMATICS, LANGUAGES ANS SCIENCE (PRIMALS)

FOR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS

Narrative Report

Date: July 19 - 21, 2021

Early in the morning delegates from different district in the division of Quezon joined the
online training-workshop. Everyone of us was excited with the learnings that will inculcate
during the training. The registration was done earlier before the training starts. At exactly 7:30 in
the morning, the opening program starts. There are more than 90 participants in different districts
with specialization in Mathematics. During the orientation the facilitators where introduced.

The session starts with the “Exploring Integers Operations” facilitated by Ms. Vanessa
Anilao. This focus on the use of different models in addition and subtraction. However, we found
out that there is limitation of using the models.

The second session is all about “Space Exploration-Understanding Perimeter,

Circumference Through Art” discussed by Ms. Fretzel P. Bantucan. The first activity starts with
storytelling. The title of the story is “The Grandfathers Tang”. Most of us know how to use
Tangrams. It is composed of seven shapes. We are able to differentiate and see relationships
among shapes based on their attributes. Adopt the formative strategies in assessing the
mathematical thinking skills of the learners.

The third session is all about “Space Exploration -Surface Area and Volume Through
Art” the facilitator is Fretzel P. Bantucan. We are able to explore the concept of positive
exponents. Using the different model to explore exponents and polynomials. In developing the
vocabulary, related polynomials using cooperative learning strategies to increase student’s
involvement achievement and accountability.

Fourth session is about “Keeping the Balance-Understanding Expression And Equations”

discussed by Ms. Jocelyn P. Marino. She presented a video about the origin of the algebra, where
it is originated and who are the father of algebra. It also emphasizes the meaning of four
fundamental operations.

Ms. Candida M. Fajardo was the fifth presentor and she presented “Power Shapes
-Understanding Exponents and Polynomials.” Here we explore the exponents and the
polynomials, using different models to explore the exponents and polynomials. Developing the
expertise of the students with polynomials and exponents.

The six-session discussed by Ms. Jocelyn P. Marino that is all about “Building Products-
Multiplying and Factoring Polynomials.” We are able to visualized multiplication and factoring
polynomials using concrete models. We’re able to apply the concrete, representation and
symbolic level experiences in learning these. To increase learner’s involvement, achievement
and accountability use cooperative learning strategies.

The next presentor is Alyssa V. Anillao discussed “What Comes Next-Patterns and
Functions.” The session starts with the activity Rebus Puzzle. Everybody was excited and
enjoyed this activity. We are able to investigate numerical and geometric patterns. Were able to
describe them. Make predictions and generalizations. We are also able to demonstrate our
understanding that the essence of knowledge is structures and relationships of the components.

The eight session is all about “Understanding Quadratic Equation” facilitate by Ms.
Nenita Mercado. She facilitated the circular regions and pizza activity. At the end we are able to
investigate the properties of quadratic function. Use the technology to accurately identify the key
components of graphs of the quadratic functions. We are able to demonstrate understanding that
the essence of knowledge and relationship of the components is structure.

Next session is all about “What’s in The Central Tendency” discussed by Dr. Celestina
M. Alba. She used several activities which strengthened the ideas about the measures of central
tendency. One of the activities is getting coins and we are going to classify it according to year.
She had the participants engaged in the activities in which had impressions of good techniques in
measures of central tendency.

The tenth session is all about “Making Sense of Data, Organizing Data with Technology”
facilitated by Mr. Roland Magsino. He facilitated the use of Microsoft Excel in the process of
collecting, analyzing and interpreting data. Most of the participants shared their ways on how to
solve the activity using the Microsoft Excel.

The eleventh session is all about “Using Technology to Learn and Practice Math Skills”
discussed by Mr. Roland Magsino. We study some applications that could use in graphing and
solving equations. These applications show solution and graph of the equation. There is also
some website that we could visits our references.

On the last day, after lunch is the closing ceremony. Our certificate of appearance,
participation and recognition is given via email. At exactly 3 o’clock on the afternoon, program
ended.
