Good morning Class.

Good morning Ma’am.
3. Classroom Management

Before you take a seat, kindly pick up

the pieces of paper under your chair? (Students will pick up
trashes/scratches)

4. Attendance

Mayor, may I now hear the report of

attendance for today’s session.
Ma’am, there’s no absent for today’s
meeting.
Very good class. You’re all present.
B. LESSON PROPER

1. Review

Since you’re all here today, can I ask

some of you if what they have learned
yesterday?

So, let me ask you first what is our

lesson yesterday?
Team Sports ma’am. (in chorus)

Good. So now, we will be doing

an activity to test up if everyone really
understand our topic yesterday. Is that
clear?
Yes ma’am.

So, this activity is very simple because

there’s no need for you my dear class
to stand up.
I prepare a box with some questions
related to the topic we have discussed
yesterday. I also bring with me your
index card because once I pick your
name, you will be automatically the
one who will answer questions from
our QUESTION BOX.

Are you ready?

Yes Ma’am. We’re ready.

Let’s start. So, for our first luck student,

I pick Theresa.
(Theresa will pick a question in the
box)

Question:
What do you learned about Team
Sports?

Possible Answer of the student:

Ma’am I learned that A team sport
includes any sport where individuals
are organized into opposing teams
which compete to win. Team members
act together towards a shared
objective.
Very good Theresa. It is really
important that when you play as a
team, you should be aiming to achieve
the shared objective together.

So, for our second lucky student, I pick

Richard.

(Pamela will pick a question)

Question:
What are the team sports?

Possible answer of the student:

Some of the team sports that we have
tackled yesterday ma’am are
basketball, volleyball and soccer.

Good Pamela. Those sports you have

mentioned are some of the team
sports.

And now that you have really learned

about Team Sports, we will now
proceed with our new lesson.

This time we will be focusing on the

seven basic skills in Volleyball.

2. Motivation

I will be letting you people to watch a

video clip I downloaded that has
something to do with our lesson today.

After you watch the video, I will be

asking some questions so you better
listen and watch carefully.

Is that clear?
Yes ma’am.

(plays the video) (students will watch the video)

So, what have you noticed with the

video?

John Mark, may I hear from you?

Ma’am I listed the things I’ve noticed I
the video and these are: Serve, Block,
Forearm Pass, Spike and Overhand
pass.
Thank you John Mark.

The things that your classmate has

listed are the five basic skills that you
should know in playing the sport,
Volleyball.

3. Presentation of the Lesson

Let us again define the term Volleyball.

Who can give me the definition of the

word Volleyball?

Anyone?

(students will raise their hands)

Yes Maureen?
Ma’am Volleyball is a game played by
two teams, usually of six players on a
side, in which the players use their
hands to bat a ball back and forth over
a high net, trying to make the ball
touch the court within the opponents'
playing area before it can be returned.
Thank you Maureen.

Volleyball is indeed a game where two

teams with a six players each are
competing to reach a certain point to
be the winner of the said game.

But, in playing this game, we should

learn the basic skills needed first to
fully equip yourselves when I will let
you play in the field.

Are you excited?

Yes ma’am.

Alright. So, for the first basic skill that

we will be discussing is the Service.

(The teacher will show a picture of a

player doing the service)
What can you say about the picture?

Right. Service.
The player is about to do the service.

Every play in volleyball starts with a

serve. Serving is the only time in the
game that you start with full control of
the ball. This is why you’ll often see a
lot of strategy used by servers.

A player can choose to serve over or

underhand.

Factors related to a good serve include

targeting, speed, and spin. A good
server takes a second or two to identify
any areas of weakness in the opposing
side’s serve receive setup, and then
targets their serve to that area of
weakness.

What is that basic skill again?

Service ma’am.
Okay, so for the second skill is this.

(the teacher will be showing a picture

of a player doing forearm passing)

This picture is a picture of a forearm

passing or bumping.

By far one of the most basic skills in

volleyball is passing, also known as
bumping. This is when a player
contacts the volleyball with their
forearms and redirects the ball to one
of their teammates.

Passing the ball is one of the most

important skills, because it’s usually
the first of the three ball contacts the
team makes. A good pass will make it
easier for the setter to get a good
setup to the hitter. A bad pass makes it
a lot harder to execute a good bump-
set-spike play.

The third basic skill is the volleying.

Many beginners think a volley and a set

are the same thing, but they are
actually two different terms. A volley is
a more generic term that means
contacting the ball as an overhead pass
with your hands (mostly your fingers).
A set is actually a type of volley.

This time, I want you all to do what I’m

doing.

Put your hands up over your head,

with your index fingers almost touching
your forehead and your thumbs and
index fingers shaping into almost a
diamond – that’s the starting point for (The students will also do the position
an overhead pass. of fingers in ding volley)

(The teacher will check the fingers of

the students)

Good. So for the fourth skill is the

Setting.
A set is a specialized type of volley. It’s
usually the second hit, and it’s
intended to set up one of your
teammates to attack the ball. So, it’s
basically volleying the ball in a way that
means the attacker can hit the ball
over the net.

The difference between a set and a

regular volley is that you are aiming
your set in a very specific way. Getting
it on target is the most important
factor when setting the ball. You’ll also
need to volley it high enough that the
hitter has time to do their full
approach. But not so high that they’re
just waiting and waiting in which also
give the blockers on the other team
lots of time to get in place.

Are you still with me class?

Okay. So, let’s continue. For the fifth Yes ma’am.

skill: Attacking

Attacking is also called hitting or

spiking is when a player jumps up and
hits the ball with a one-armed
overhead swinging motion, contacting
the ball squarely with their slightly
open hand. The intent of a hit is pure
power – jumping helps generate more
power and momentum. A skilled player
also aims the ball around the block and
targets the area of the opposing team’s
playing area that they think has the
weakest defense coverage.

Next is the Blocking.

Probably one of the most straight-
forward named skills, a block is a
defensive play when a player jumps at
the net to block the hit from coming
onto their team’s side of the net. The
key secret to blocking is timing.

When blocking, remember that no part

of a player’s body can touch the net,
either when they’re jumping up or
when they’re landing. A player must
also be careful that their feet stay on
their side of the center line. This is

often how ankle injuries occur, when

either the blocker or the hitter lands
under the net and they land on the
foot of the other player. So, always be
careful.

And for the last basic skill that we will

be discussing is the Diving.

Diving is basically crashing to the floor

in an all-out attempt to keep the ball
from touching the floor. Okay, it’s not
really about crashing to the floor…
using a good technique will not only
help you save your body some aches
and pains, but using some skill and
coordination means you have a better
chance of actually keeping the ball in
play.

And that’s the SEVEN BASIC SKILLS IN

VOLLEYBALL that we should know in
playing Volleyball.

Any questions or clarifications?

Feel free to ask.

4. Evaluation

Questions having none means you’re None ma’am.

now ready with our activity.
Are you guys really ready?

Alright. So we will be calling this

activity “POSTER STATION
DEMONSTRATION” Yes ma’am.

I will be putting posters around the

gym where students will practice each
skill as follows:
Service Station - Use wall space. Tape a
target height and distance for students
to practice serve.

Block Station - Use the left side of net,

both courts. Students will work in
partner pairs on either side of the net.
They will jump with arms raised, clap
hands over the net, then repeat.

Forearm Pass Station - Any open space.

Students will work in partner pairs to
toss the ball and return with the
forearm pass, taking turns.

Overhand Pass Station - Any open

space. Students will work in partner
pairs to toss the ball and return with
the overhand pass, taking turns.

Spike Station - Right side of net, both

courts. Students will work with a
partner who tosses the ball so they can
practice the spike. Take turns.

Walk students through each station,

then divide them up and allow to (Students will go to each station to
practice. Show them the 'move' signal demonstrate the poster that I have posted
and make sure everyone understands about the basic skills in playing volleyball.)
expectations.

Circulate and help students where

necessary. Blow the whistle to signal
moving to a new station.

Are you all done?

Very good. Just keep on practicing if

you have time to master those skills
that we have discussed.
Yes ma’am.

IV. ASSIGNMENT

So, for your assignment I want you to

answer the following questions:
Write it down in your notebook.

1. What is Basketball?
2. What are the basic skills in
Basketball?

And that ends up our discussion.

Good bye Class.

Good bye and thank you ma’am.
