Responsibility teaches to be humble

Name: Shreyas K
Class: BE
College: Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering
Age: 21
Background:
Shreyas hails from a family of four people. His father works in a
co-operative sector and her mother is a government employee. He
has a sibling and now doing SSLC. Shreyas is been a part of Anveshana for the past one year
and he also presented a project on Classification of Alzheimer and Dementia using Fusion
and Machine learning techniques.
Before Anveshana:
Shreyas attended one of the science fairs that was conducted by Sahyadri Science talenthunt
and he says Anveshana is not the first time he started experimenting with the science topics.
He also mentions that he has a special interest towards education and if someone is unable to
pursue their studies, he helps in whichever way possible to motivate them. He says his
interest extends to make new projects in science subjects as well. His team has actually done
a project on “Piezoelectric shoes”. Shreyas believes that if a student has to cultivate interest
and grow in a particular sector, he needs a mentor who guides and keeps the student on track.
In fact he also shares that his guide has helped him a lot in reaching towards the goal.
During Anveshana:
Shreyas says that he is very thrilled and happy to be mentoring the school students who were
very well coping with all the mentors. There was a very good sync between the school
students and the mentors. He says that, he, as a mentor, made sure his mentees keep knowing
more about the project and used Google meet app during alternative days for the
communication. He also mentions that even students were having interest in participating and
doing the project. As the project proceeded they became more and more comfortable. The
main part of being a mentor lies in understanding the student’s mindset, according to Shreyas.
Once the mentor understands the mentee, it becomes easier to train and guide them. He also
had his parents and lecturers’ support and guidance whenever he needed it.
After Anveshana:
When Shreyas shared his experience of being a mentor to his friends and classmates, they
were very thrilled and excited to know more. He told that he also made his students to
approach him whenever needed. He says that with this whole exercise, his patience and
confidence levels have improved a lot. He says that he learnt that not all people have same
mindsets. He says by having a mentee under him, he became more and more responsible as
well and he thanks Anveshana for helping him change for better.
