Background:
Ashok hails from a family of 5 members. His father is a driver and her mother is a house
wife. He has a brother and a sister and they both are currently studying. Ashok likes to learn
new things and acquire new skillset whenever he gets time and he pursues it as a hobby.
Textbooks are not the only sources of learning:
Ashok likes to experiment with new things and whenever the teacher is absent or her friends
get any doubt in the subject, he likes to take the chance and teach the topic to her friends. He
says earlier he was not confident in doing so but once he taught her friends, he gained that
confidence. When his friends thank her for doing so, he says he gets inner happiness. He
attends science fairs and makes new models with the help of his teachers and Agastya
instructors but he says that he never attempted any model at home all by himself because he
is scared.
Meheshwari likes to ask doubts whenever he cannot understand the subject. He asks the
regular teacher or Agastya instructor. However, if he does not get an answer from them or if
her doubt still persists, he likes to refer the textbooks or look up in the internet. He says he
has a problem in understanding the theory subjects and Agastya helped her overcome this
problem by giving hands on experience in theory subjects like science. He says this
experience gave her an opinion that the subjects should be taught in the activities or video
method in school. With the teaching like this and with Agastya instructors’ lesson plans,
Ashok says that his interest towards the subject has really increased.
Some of the activities like pressure, water and light are very close to her heart and he says
that these concepts can be witnessed daily. He participated in several science fairs organized
by Agastya and gave demonstrations of models like Newton car, centrifugal force, atomizer,
friction, and magnetic force etc.
When asked about the lockdown, Ashok explained that the lockdown happened because of
corona virus and it is a very dangerous virus. During this lockdown, to not let the learning
spirit stop in the students, Agastya started a whatsapp group and started ELP classes. Ashok
says he liked learning through new media of online and not let the holiday season to go
waste. In classroom, teachers are always there to help but Ashok says that in ELP classes, all
learning happens by the student himself.
