Name: Nikhitha Jain Class: 7th Sem Age: 21 College: MITE, Moodabidri Background: Nikhitha hails from a family of 4 members. Her father is an assistant engineer in NITK. Her mother is a homemaker. She has one sibling and is now studying in 10 th standard. Nikhitha has been attending Anveshana sessions for the past one year. She has done a project about the classification of Alzheimer and Dementia using fusion and machine learning techniques. Before Anveshana: Nikhitha says she has never attended any science fair exhibitions and science programs so far and Anveshana is the first of its kind. She says she always donate money to students who are financially unable to pursue their education and she makes it as a ritual during her every birthday. According to Nikhitha, mentorship is needed to every person who is planning to do something new. A mentor can give guidance and show the path whenever one is struck on their path to finish the work. Nikhitha had a very good experience of being a mentor in Anveshana program. Her mentee was always motivated to finish the project and always had enthusiasm to do things. During Anveshana: Nikhitha was allotted two students and both of them are very talented kids and expressed keen interest in learning new things. As the situation required, Nikhitha had to connect with the students only through zoom calls and Google meet. However, she says she used to connect with them very regularly to check up on them. She used to encourage them to ask doubts if there are any and get familiarized with them as much as possible to make an easy interaction. She says as it is her first time as a mentor, she had full support from her parents and the college lecturers as well. After Anveshana: Nikhitha says she had a very good time being a mentor to the two students and she also gave a rough insight about the entire concept to her friends in the college. She now is very keen and happy to be a mentor. She says she can grow as a mentor only when her mentee is getting right insights from her and so she says she always takes insights from her mentee as to what they are expecting. With this entire program, Nikhitha says she can also see a personal change in her behavior as she can now open up to new people easily, explain things better, and there is a definitive increase in her confidence levels. She thanks the team for these changes.
