75 MW POWER PLANT, GUMMIDIPOONDI -1-

INTRODUCTION
The intent of the instruction is to ensure safe coasting down of all
equipments and brought to unit on safer side. The sequences of
activities on boiler, turbine and auxiliaries for unit block out condition,
unit trip (power supply available) and immediate unit start up which
are to carried out in a coordinated and sequential manner by concern
engineer. Failure to do so may result in unforeseen delays and costly
damages. A checklist, in such circumstances, can help in carrying out
the activities in a coordinated manner. However, it is pertinent to note
here that such checklists are for normal cases only and under
unusual circumstances the procedure to be followed will be
determined by the judgment of the operating personnel.
RESPONSIBILITY
The shift charge engineer/ unit controller will distribute the checklist
document to concern engineer during every trip of the unit.
The local Boiler engineer is responsible for doing the following
sequence of activities and filled up the checklist formats & coordinate
with shift charge engineer/ unit controller. SCE/ UC is collected the
filled document from concern engineer and summit to O&E.

ON BLOCKOUT CONDITIONS:

* Ensure that DC – APH & scanner fan are running

* Ensure that HFO trip V/V, HFO Nozzle v/vs are closed and
open short r/c v/v of HFO. & Ensure that LDO TRIP V/V & nozzle
v/vs are closed.

* Close CBD root valve & S/H spray valves

* Close sampling valves & isolate aux.steam supply and open

aux.steam drain bypass v/vs

* When DG set comes in service and emergency bus is

charged, then start A/C – APH motor and stop DC motor. Start
L.O Pump of thrust & guide bearing. Start A/C scanner fan and
stop D.C Scanner fan

* Check that the bottom ash conveyor level is normal and

sealing is ok

* Check that the running mills and seal air fan are tripped and
seal air v/vs are closed

* Keep burner tilt to zero position. And adjust SADC-

20degree in AB& CD elevations and close all elevations corner.

When TNEB power supply is restored:

a. Start A/C – APH motor and stop DC motor. Start A/C

scanner fan and stop D.C Scanner fan and start lub.oil pumps of
guide and support bearings
Boiler light up: (Immediate unit hot startup)

The following activities are to be carried out under instruction of

C.R

 Open startup vent isolation valve.

 Check that the bottom ash conveyor level is normal and

sealing is ok

 Ensure that feed water control v/v isolation v/vs are opened.

 Line up CD & AB elevation of HFO oil guns. & Charge

atomizing steam system. Close the HFO short r/c v/v after
ensuring that the HFO long r/c v/v is opened.

 After giving oil guns start command from DCS, ensure that
flame are stable and any oil leakage noticed than isolate oil
line.

 Ensure that startup vent mov is opened& steam is coming

out.
 Ensure that main steam stop v/v is opened. Bypass mov is
closed.

AFTER THE UNIT SYNCHRONISATION

 Take scrapper conveyor in service

 Ensure that the seal air fan is running (after starting through
DCS)

 Line up mills & feeders-A, B, C, D

 Check the healthiness of running mills& feeders

 Open CBD Valve, SH spray & sampling valves

 Adjust SADC positions.

 After removing oil guns in service put scavenge mode for oil
nozzle cleaning.
 Carryout APH soot blowing
