1. What characteristics that you can observe or see that is common to them?
- I observed that they are good at handling finances , they are very motivated, creative and
optimistic.

2. Who among the entrepreneurs you mentioned that you admire most and why?
-I was inspired by Mariano Que, due to his dedication to start a small drugstore business, he
became a successful and one of the recognized successful filipino entrepreneur.

3. In your own opinion, what do you need to possess to become a successful entrepreneur?
-To become a successful entrepreneur you must have a positive attitude and always be confident
to yourself, Creativity, relationship to your partners, customers, and businesses is very essential,
also lastly has a good managing skills to do day to day business.

1. What motivated you to become an entrepreneur?


-For my family of course, it is my reason why Is still work and still looking forward new
opportunities to get better finances to support my family.

2. What do you think are your characteristics and competencies that made you a successful
entrepreneur?
-With being confident and trust with yourself, by discovering new opportunities and by not being
afraid of risks.

3. What do you think of being employed? Why didn’t you choose that path? Being employed
have a lot of things that restricted to do unlike being an entrepreneur I have my own time and I
can also decide for what is best for my business also being employed will always get the same
amount every month and can hard to find new opportunities because there will be times that
you need more money or you just want to change your lifestyle.

Activity 4 Research Me

Research on the life story of at least three (3) entrepreneurs in your locality; identify how they started
their business. Ask how much their start-up capital.

1. Henry Sy
-Sy came from a low-income family in Jinjang, Xiamen in China. Due to their country’s hardships,
they left it in 1936 and moved to the Philippines, where they started a small convenience store
in Manila. Not long after the relocation, World War II broke and damaged the family’s business.

However he did not stop and used his business-minded passion by selling used military combat
boots and other goods to American soldiers.

2. Socorro Ramos
- She opened the Naational Book Store in Escolta with her husband with a capital of P200 to sell
books and schools supplies to students at the age of 19. Japanese was still in control in Manila
around that time that also imposed censorship on books and periodicals. Also from there profit
they also sell items like candies and soaps to earn more.

3. John Gokongwei Jr.


- He was born in China to an heir of one of Cebu’s wealthiest families. However, when his dad
died, everything just went downhill, so he supported his family by selling Cebu items. Then, he
tried trading items by boat and truck until he started importing items from the US. Then,
Gokongwei realized that there were smaller margins in this field, so he borrowed PHP 500,000
from Chinabank to start a corn milling business known today as Universal Corn Products. This
venture was a success, but he did not stop there. He started to add other products such as Blend
45 and then soon renamed his business as Universal Robina Corporation.
