CASE STORY TITLE: Natural Reserve Institute of Barangay Bayalse

Conflict Identification

The conflict that is present in the barangay was the effect of global warming and climate
change. In effect, they were feigned with the unpredictable weather conditions that resulted to
natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and drought. One of the sectors that were
devastated the most is their livelihood which is crop farming – their major source of income. In
addition to that, the collateral damage – properties, jobs, and resources caused by these
disasters can become crucial to the lives of the citizens when lost, too, as this is a part of their
day to day lives.

Plan of Action

As a course of action, I believe that education goes a long way. That said, people in authority
should provide disaster risk reductions training and climate change seminars to the people in
Barangay Bayalse, and to more barangays that can possibly experience the same odds. In
addition to this, they should also be taught to switch to sustainable alternatives that they can
turn to in times of natural disasters. That way, they are still capable to earn, unlike having crop
farming as their only main source of income. This too, can help barangays like Barangay Bayalse
to attain an improved living standard.

Reflection

Climate change, global warming, and natural disasters are occurrences that, unfortunately,
humans cannot stop. What we, human beings, can do, on the other hand, is to use the gift of
rationality. We should always prepare for the worst to come. Like the saying “better safe than
sorry” We should also realize the actions we are doing that leads to the rapid effect of climate
change in our country, and the planet as a whole. We should be responsible human beings.
