ACTIVITY TITLE: Essay #10: Disaster Awareness, Preparedness and Management
REALIZATION, INSIGHT AND LEARNINGS
What is your role or contribution in our country’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
(DRRM) Plan ?
Student’s Answer:

Disaster risk reduction and management, or DRRM, is the systematic process of using administrative
directives, organizations, and operational skills and capacities to implement strategies, policies, and
improved coping mechanisms to lessen the negative effects of hazards and the likelihood of disasters. It
emphasizes actions made to increase a community's capability and decrease its long-term vulnerabilities
to diminish the effects of a disaster. It makes an effort to lessen the harm caused by natural disasters
including earthquakes, floods, droughts, and cyclones.

The DRRM plan included a number of duties for young adults, but the most common ones were educating
them about the crisis, getting them prepared beforehand, and preparing. These three are some of the
roles that young adults can play in the plan. Since it enables them to organize evacuations and make
preparations before the disaster occurs, many people gain considerably from the growth of disaster
awareness. Making planning and preparations in advance may also lessen any issues or harm that a
disaster may bring about. Additionally, it can lessen injuries for a lot of people. Furthermore, knowing how
to provide first aid and apply bandages is very important in an emergency, and disseminating this
knowledge makes it possible for more individuals to recover from catastrophes.

The DRRM plan accepts a range of contributions from each individual. The rescue of stranded people
might result from a simple message of increasing awareness. The more people who share information and
prepare, the less impact a disaster will have on an individual.
