3. REPORT PHILOSOPHY& METHOD OF DESIGN

 Tank has been designed for pressure at rest soil pressure coefficient.
 Two cases have been considered for design- one when tank is full of water and no soil
outside, second when no water inside and water table upto FGL with soil.
 WSM method of design has been used as per IS3370-Part-2.
 Staircase DL and LL has been taken into account for design of raft and wall, as it is counter
balancing the wall and raft.

p p (due to surcharge)

Design philosophy
Walls of sump have been designed using Moody's chart for moment coefficients.
WSM method with limited crack width of .1mm have been adopted for the design.

Input Data
Density of soil (γs)= 1.8 T/m3
Density of Water(γw)= 1 T/m3
Surcharge (S)= 0.5 T/m2
Pressure coe, Earth @rest (k0) = 0.5
Uniform pressure 'p'= k0.S
= 0.5*0.5
= 0.25 t/m²
Triangular pressure'p'= k0*γ*b where b is the total height of sump

Moment =Coefficient*p*b²

For Sump Wall

Width of the rectangular plate= 2.6 m
So 'a'= 1.3 m
Height of the rectangular plate(b)= 3.8 m

Load Case-I, When Water is filled in the sump & no soil outside and no surcharge
Here pressure 'p'= gw.b
= 1.0 *3.8
= 3.8 t/m²

Load Case-II, When Sump is empty, soil outside with surcharge

Here pressure 'p'= γwb+(γs-γw)*b*k0 (due to Triangular loading)
= 5.32 t/m²

pressure 'p'= 0.25 (due to surcharge)

From above two critical load cases and their values we can conclude that Load Case-II is governing.

Ratio (a/b)= 0.342

Vertical Moment Co-efficient (My)= 0.02 (for triangular loading)

Mx = 0.92 Tm/m
at this location moment coefficients for uniform loading
Vertical Moment Co-efficient (My)= 0.02 (for uniform loading)

Density of conc ρ = 2.5 T/m3
DL of walls = h'*w*t*n*ρ

height of all wall-2 h' = 3.2 m

width of wall w = 7 m
thk of wall t = 0.23 m

7. SEISMIC LOAD CALCULATION

Converning condition for CCT is no liquid inside and submerged soil outside with
water table upto FGL.
Seismc loads are calculated as per IS 1893-Part-2 2014. Code is applicable for
ground supported tank. Howeer CCT is underground tank. Though tank is underground, we
are calculating seismic forces as per IS2893-II considering tank at ground level and
no soilo outside and service water level inside the CCT.

Height of water h = 3m
Length of tank Lx = 10.5 m
Width of tank Ly = 7.3 m
