b. Ask How do you find specific information in a text? Is it necessary to read every word? Do you need to know the
meaning of each word in the text?
c. Explain that scanning for specific information is a reading skill that will help children answer questions without
having to understand every word in a text.
LESSON DEVELOPMENT

d. How quickly can you find the answer to this question on page 49? Which animal did Jill Johnson help last week?
e. Read out the question in the Learning to learn box.
f. Give the pupils 30 seconds to find the answer on page 49 of their Pupil's Book.
g. Check the answer as a class and ask the pupils to tell you where in the text they found the answer.
4. Activity 2:
a. Refer pupils to the table and read out the headings.

b. Set a time limit for the task.

c. Elicit key words that the pupils should keep in mind as they scan the text to find the answers.

d. The pupils read the text again and complete the table. (Assessment)

e. Check answers as a class.

5. Read out the names in the box.

h. Elicit what word they have to use for affirmative sentences (already) and for negative sentences (yet).

a. Pupils make a list of things to do at a new school.


b. You could ask them to imagine their first day at secondary school, if this is appropriate in your context.

6. Activity 4:
a. Divide the class into pairs and have them make a new dialogue with the ideas in Activity 2 and 3.

b. Pupils have a conversation using questions and answers using the target language. (Assessment)
c. Have some volunteers come to the front and act out their dialogue.

7. Have the pupils imagine it’s 8 p.m.
