TREATMENT
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:

Welcome to the TLE (Barbering) Grade 9 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM)

Module on Performing Hair and Scalp Treatment !

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators

both from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in
helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while
overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration
their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies
that will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist
the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:

Welcome to the TLE 9 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on (Performing

Hair and Scalp Treatment) !

A customer will go to a salon for a shinier, healthier and better looking hair, but
with dated equipment hair can be left looking dull and damaged after a treatment.
Upgrade to a hair steamer or a hair processor from Source One Beauty and work
with the latest technology offered for hair treatments. Moist warm air from a hair
steamer is a gentle alternative to conventional heat applications. Steam accelerates
salon processes and enhances perms, colors, and deep conditioning. Hair
processors work with infrared technology that penetrate hair follicles so hair is
dried faster and with less damage, leaving it smooth and manageable while bonding
dyes and molecules to hair for vibrant long-lasting color.

Lesson 5 Essential Barbering Tools,
1 and their uses

Straight-bladed Scissor – A straight – bladed scissor can be used to trim hair,

beard, and mustaches. The curved handle allows you to easily cut bangs or
around the ears. Insert serrations or use a pair of shears on thinner hair to make
the finished cut look even and complete.

Straight Razor – also called an open or cut - throat razor, is a traditional tool that’s
been around for thousands of years. It gives a close, but safe shave. It can be used
on facial hair, on the neckline, and for carving straight lines around the beard.
Make short, light strokes, maintaining at least 30-degree angle. Use a strap,
maintain the razor and keep it sharp.

Hair comb – all sort of comb come in handy depending on their length and style. A
barber comb usually has both fine and thick teeth that help keep the cut uniform
for each section of hair. The fading has teeth that go from short to long and
especially useful when creating the popular fade cut.

Electric Clipper – every barber need an electric clipper or trimmer. The clipper guard
help style the hair and create a unique design. As a blade smoothly run along the
contour of the head, they trim the hair without pulling the follicles out of the scalp.

Duster Brush – don’t leave your client with an itchy neck! a Duster is much more
effective than a towel for brushing away the tray hair, especially off the back of the
neck. Be sure to keep it clean for each client.

Dressing out comb – used for backcombing, teasing and dressing out the finished
result.
Wide toothed comb – used to detangle hair before styling.
Denman classic styling brush – used to create a smooth, straight finish, such as a
bob style.
Round brushes – available in three sizes (small, medium and large), each one a
different diameter. Used when blow drying to create volume, lift, wave and curl on
shorter or longer length hair.
Flat brushes – used for general brushing, detangling and pre-dressing hair.
Hairdryers – used to dry the hair during blow drying. Your hairdryer should have
adjustable speeds and temperatures. It should be light and easy to use and the
controls should be easy to reach.
Diffusers – an attachment for a hairdryer which aids finger drying and scrunch
drying, helps to encourage curls and lift in curly or wavy hair and optimizes the
natural movement within the hair.
Nozzle – another attachment for the hairdryer, it directs the airflow and heat from
the hairdryer.
Straighteners – used to smooth and straighten dried hair.
Tongs – electric heated styling tongs used on dry hair. They are most often used on
short, fine hair or on long hair to make a ringlet effect. They can be used to create
movement or curl.
Conical wands – used to create soft curls on long, dry hair. Use the provided
protective glove.

What is It

How to massage your scalp

Scalp massaging is best done before you wash your hair:

 Step 1: Find a quiet spot, get comfortable and just enjoy rubbing your scalp.
Massage it by moving the pads of your fingers in a circular motion.
 Step 2: While keeping your knuckles in contact with your scalp, grab large
sections of hair in your hand and then gently pull on the hair, and release.
Do this over your entire head.
 Step 3: With your fingers, locate the dimples in your skull, just behind the
top of your ears. Apply pressure to the dimples for a few seconds, then
release. Repeat this step three times.
 Step 4: Lift your head and neck gently and slowly roll to the left; hold for one
second, and release. Repeat this step to the right.
 Step 5: Cup both your hands under your neck. Gently lift your head and
hold your head in that stretch position for a couple of seconds.
 Step 6: Using your fingers, apply gentle but firm pressure to the occipital
hollows at the base of your skull.
