Heredity: Inheritance and Variation

Topic/Title
of Traits

Date and Time

Grade Level and Section

Time Allotment 60 minutes

Content Standard
1. how cells divide to produce new cells
2. meiosis as one of the processes producing genetic variations of the Mendelian Pattern of Inheritance
Learning Competency

1.) compare mitosis and meiosis, and their role in the cell-division cycle S8LT-IVd-16

Learning Objectives
Within the specified period, learners should be able to:
1. Define the stages of the cell cycle and meiosis
2. Explain the process phases of mitosis and meiosis
3. Differentiate mitosis and meiosis
4. Explain how gametes are formed
ENGAGE (focus on the topic) Material
1. The teacher will show a video of hydra’s offspring and beetle offspring TV and PowerPoint Presentation
Beetle offspring:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh_tDCxbBOQ Video
Hydra’s offspring:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5-hPkcQDrU

2. Let students guess and analyze what is common to the videos shown and share
their ideas orally.

EXPLORE (provide common experience)

a. Preliminary activity
*Prayer
*Motivation (Show random pictures of falling objects)
b. Rubrics/criteria
c. Rules
* Remind the class of the class rules.
*Keep cellphones silent TV and PowerPoint presentation
*Proper seating arrangement must be implemented
*Arrange and pick up pieces of trash
*To observe silence during instruction/discussion

d. Activity
1. Organize 4 groups among yourselves
2. Get the activity sheets and materials needed
3. Read through the procedures. Ask for clarification from your teacher
4. Follow the directions in the activity with your groupmates
Direction:
There are 2 station, each member of the group will do task in every station:
1. In first station they should arrange the definition of phase 1
2. In 2nd station there are blank paper, the assigned member in station 2
will illustrate phase 1 ( the drawing should based on the definition of
phase 1)
3. Students have 2 minutes to finish the task in every station and the
activity will be over until all output will posted on the blackboard

EXPLAIN (Post-activity)
Manila Paper
 Post all your outputs on the board TV and PPT Presentation
 How did you find the activity? Activity Sheet
 Each group will have a representative to present and explain their output
 Did you learn something from the activity?
 Guide Questions:
 How is Meiosis I similar to and different from mitosis?
 How is Meiosis II similar to and different from mitosis?
 Why is Meiosis important to living things?
 Compare and contrast mitosis and meiosis?

ELABORATE (apply and making use of information)

 Introduce the Lesson: Cell division TV and PowerPoint Presentation

 The tecaher will give emphasis on the following:
 Definiton of Cell division, Meiosis and Mitosis
 Phases of Mieosis and Mitosis
 Differences of Meiosis and Mitosis
 Sample organism where Meiosis and Mitosis occur
 Importance of Meiosis and Mitoosis
