COVID-19 has risks millions of lives throughout the world. In the

Philippines, it has infected thousands of patients and drastically increasing. It was
a state of public health crisis that strictly implement nationwide lockdown or
community quarantine. All public and private schools implemented the different
modalities in teaching.
Due to the discovery of vaccine, citizens were now given protection against
the virus and economy slowly opened and back to normal. As vaccination rate
continues to increase, number of infected cases eventually lowered. This actuates
the call for a limited face to face classes specially for schools located in areas with
low risk or cases of COVID-19.
In connection to this, part of the preparation of Kalipay National High School
for the limited face to face classes was the continuous campaign to the students,
parents, and community for vaccination. Twenty-three of twenty-four teachers
were fully vaccinated and five of them were with booster shots. Physical preparation
of the schools in compliance with the minimum health safety protocols by IATF
were strictly implemented. Sixteen-faucets handwashing facility mushroomed in
the entrance of the school with available water source and soap for the school-
goers. There are always available face masks to those who were not able to bring
their own. Upon entering the gate, their body temperatures are checked and
recorded. Signages are available everywhere and arrows were drawn on the floor so
that school-goers are guided where to pass and avoid congestion in the area.
Students are always reminded to follow at least 1-meter physical distancing. The
school has set up clear and easy to understand signages and mechanisms to
strengthen observance of health protocols and protective measures with
established safe entrance and exit procedures for school-goers. The school also

ensured that proper disposal of infectious wastes such as used tissues and masks
in non-contact receptacles by establishing the yellow trash bins for infectious
materials. In the classroom, class advisers established mechanisms to ensure zero
to minimal risks of COVID-19 transmission of the learners by following the
prescribed number of seats inside the classroom, presence of markers and stickers
on the floor to manage the traffic and physical distancing, availability of alcohols
and facemasks, and a well ventilation. If in case COVID-19 infected one of the
students or school personnel, isolation unit was prepared. The school has
developed a contingency plan and a communication plan to coordinate with proper
authorities. Before the start of the limited face to face classes, parents and students
were oriented on the protocols to be followed inside the school campus. Their
responsibilities as parents and students were clearly explained to them. Parents’
consents were also asked from them as proof that they are voluntarily allowing
their sons and daughters to participate in the pilot testing of limited face to face
classes which started on April 4, 2022.
The pilot testing for limited face to face classes was successful with the joy
and excitement for learners, parents, and teachers for at last after two years
normal face to face classes eventually is in reach.
