7 Teaching and learning The Communicative approach of English Language teaching is used, which
methods employs a variety of different methods and techniques, all based around the
principle of the students acquiring language by guided self-discovery and
practicing in activities which require communication.
The course is practical and interactive. Classes are conducted in English. The
priority is given to the integration and development of four language skills as
well as academic skills, academic writing, in particular. Academic writing
material will be presented and practiced in class and given as home
assignment.
To ensure all this, the following methods and approaches will be used:
interactive lecture/seminar
flipped classroom
2
scaffolding
brainstorming
discussion
individual, group- and pair-work
deductive/inductive methods
task-based learning
role plays and simulations
audio-lingual method
product and process writing
demonstration/presentation
general and academic vocabulary development, using Personal Learning
Dictionary (PLD)
One main feature of the course is that it is on the electronic platform E-
learning and all the assignments and the materials are provided there. Certain
assignments will be checked by using Turnitin similarity detection system.
The system monitors an assignment submission deadline, helps teachers give
various types of feedback and supply all the needed material for classroom
practice as well as self-study.

Aim of the course The aim of the course is to develop communicative skills in English:
8
listening and reading comprehension, written and oral expression and
communicative interaction and mediation at A2 level in multiple contexts.
The course also aims at developing academic writing skills.
Each topic is covered within 2 weeks; concepts and content are presented,
vocabulary discovered and learnt. This is followed by consolidation and
production of the acquired concepts and formative file tests which are done at
home and later analyzed in class. This is followed by students’ presentations
on topics covered before the midterm exam – presentation 1 and before the
final exam – presentation 2.
Students on the course will be offered supplementary material (mainly
electronically) related to a particular topic. Students are regularly advised to
5
do intensive out-of-class reading and writing assignments.

situations. Students at this level are expected to have a fair range of
linguistic resources, and successfully use them to communicate a message
which is being assessed together with range and accuracy. The exam lasts
for about 10 minutes. Students in pairs exchange information based on the
prompts given by their teacher.

reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as the use of English. There
are two parts: Written Test, including Reading, Writing, Listening, Use of
English papers, and Speaking Paper.
NB The format of the papers in the Final Exam is the same as in the
Midterm above (p. 12), with the only difference that the Midterm Exam is
based on the material covered over the first seven weeks of the course, while
the Final Exam – summarises all the material learned and practised over the
whole course.
