Statement on Generative
AI use Students are permitted to utilize any generative artificial intelligence (AI)
software, such as ChatGPT, GPT-3, Twee, Tome and others throughout the
course, as long as it enhances their learning experience and prepares them for
their future in a workforce that may increasingly require their ability to
effectively harness AI tools. These instruments may be used both inside and
outside the classroom for a variety of tasks, such as brainstorming, drafting,
categorizing, classifying, editing, rewriting, paraphrasing, comparing and
contrasting, provided that their use is transparent and consistent with principles
of academic integrity, ensuring appropriate source attribution and emplyment of
relevant referncing and citation techniques.

(FX) 41 – 50 Failed, but student has the right to take the exam again and
has an extra chance to pass.
0 – 40 Failed, student has to take the course again to get the credit.

active class involvement and 0.4 points for homework).
1.4 x 25 sessions=35 points
Note that the first session of the semester, two (2)
presentation sessions and the midterm week (two sessions)
are not assessed.
Hometask:
0.4 points-a student is prepared for the class with homework.
0 point- a student has not done homework.
Participation/involvement:
1 point: A student actively participates full time: student
arrives on time, is equipped with required class materials,
and proactively contributes to class; works consistently and is
fully engaged during the entire time; interacts and
collaborates effectively with peers and participates in all pair
and group activities, listens to others;
0.5 points: A student does not participate full time or a
student is not active enough: though prepared , a student
arrives late or very late ; rarely contributes during the
session and their involvement is limited or very limited;
student is hesitant to participate in pair or group activities, is
reluctant to share the ideas, ask questions and give
comments.
0 point: A student does not participate at all.
A student has to make TWO individual presentations (weeks 7 and 15) based
on the thematic material covered in the course book. The estimated time for
presentation is 3-5 minutes (1-3 minutes for the presentation and the rest of the
time for discussion. The time allocated for the whole group actual presentation
is 1 lecture (100 minutes).
The marking scheme for each Presentation comprises a maximum of 5 points
in
the course assessment, without any minimum benchmark. This is broken
down into the following components:
Content: how well the presentation covers the topic
Structure: how the speech is organized, transition from one part to the
other is marked by the signposting language used
Language: focuses on words and phrases used when making presentations
in English; level-specific accurate grammar, relevant vocabulary/lexical
resource
Delivery: the way in which presenter performs or delivers the speech and
12
focuses on the aspects like, audience rapport, eye contact, movement,
posture, body language, voice
Interaction: focuses on the interacton among students
Students will sit one (1) Midterm exam (25 points). The exam is made up of two
parts: Part One - Written Test, including four papers: Reading, Listening,
Writing and Use of English (covering grammar and general vocabulary) and
Part Two - Speaking Paper.
Listening Paper: each correct answer is worth 1 point so the final score
depends on total number of questions answered correctly. (e. g. 12 correct
answers = 12 points (raw score), which is equivalent to 5 points (scaled
score), according to N × 5 ÷ 12 formula.
Use of English: each correct answer is worth 1 point so the final score
depends on total number of questions answered correctly. For example,
30 correct answers = 30 points (raw score), which is equivalent to 5
points (scaled score), according to N × 5 ÷ 30 formula.
The criteria for marking Speaking Paper are the following: Grammar and
Vocabulary, Discourse Management, Pronunciation, Interactive
Communication. Each component takes maximum 5 points. Therefore, overall
score is 20 which equals to 5 points: 20/4. Accordingly, student’s raw score is
divided by 4.
For more details of the speaking skill assessment, please, refer to Appendix #
2, Matrix # 3.
At the end of the semester students sit the Final Exam in the examination
week. The examination is compulsory for all students and tests all four
skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as the use of
English. There are two parts: Written Test, including Reading, Writing,
Listening, Use of English papers, and Speaking Paper.
